Seaforth U6 Panthers v Collaroy Cromer Strikers Kennedys

Although the match was played at Tania Park, the Panthers' familiar training ground, it seemed before even the first ball was kicked that the team would soon be entering into unfamiliar territory. The omens appeared to be conspiring against the Panthers. The playing conditions were cold, damp and miserable (as were many of the Panther parents). Confusion reigned as to whether the game had been called off. And most significantly, the Panthers' players were completely unable to get their tongues around the opposition's convoluted name. Might this be the match that brought the Panthers unbeaten run to an end?

It did not take long for the Panthers to reach unchartered waters when three minutes after kick-off the Strikers' feisty number 10 scored; shooting just past goalie William's outstretched hands. The first goal the Panthers had ever conceded drew gasps from the damp spectators and uncertain looks on the wet faces of the players. Clearly the Strikers were a talented team. For the first time the Panthers were being asked questions by an opposition. Would the Panthers know how to respond? Could 5 year olds draw on inner reserves to come back from behind? Would they ever be able to pronounce the opposition's name?

The answers became clear when, after the opening goal was scored, the Panthers returned immediately to their 2-2-1 formation: William wiped the mud off his gloves, Connor defiantly dug in his heals in defence, Torben and Wiley pulled their socks up as they returned to mid-field and Gabriel and Daniel resumed their positions in attack whilst tucking in their over-sized jerseys. The team kept its shape for the remainder of the half. It was a tactic that served them well. Torben narrowly missed an equaliser. Wiley had a well-constructed run, leaving most of the opposition in his wake. Some clever first half substitutions saw Lily, Harry and Lloyd come off the bench and add freshness to the Panthers' attack. Lily had two skilful shots at goal, both of which were thwarted by the Strikers. William made a beautiful save, depriving the Striker's number 10 of another goal.

One-nil to the Strikers at half time.

Although the scorecard was in deficit, it seemed that the tide was turning in the Panthers' favour. And turn it did. The Panthers produced some sparkling football in the second half. Solid defence by Wiley, Daniel and Connor kept the Striker's precocious number 10 in check. Gabriel, in goal for the final period, made a number of courageous diving saves, one of which resulted in the opposition players falling around him like ten pins. At the other end of the pitch Lily grafted an equaliser in the tenth minute. She was unlucky not to add to her total when she narrowly missed in the eleventh and twelfth minutes. The Panthers put their noses in front when Lily found the net in the thirteenth minute. Undeterred the Strikers kept coming, only to be sent backwards by Connor, Harry and Lloyd in defence. With matters still in the balance Gabriel pulled off a match-winning save when he pounced on the ball in the final seconds.

Final score: Two-one to the Panthers.

What a great game. Well done team and well played Strikers. We look forward to playing you again in week 18. Perhaps by then the team will have the hang of your name?

Player of the match: Connor Rush-Fellay
Most improved: William Irwin

Seaforth U7 Possums vs Mosman Crows

At a star studded training session at Mosman Oval, a strange sense of unease settled over the normally boisterous under 7s Crows outfit. The coach pressed them for detail. "What's wrong boys?" he said, anxious as to the cause of their unusually subdued behaviour.

"Did you just say..." a jittery boy piped up, unable to finish his question on the first attempt.
"Did you say... the Possums?"
The coach scanned his draw sheet again. "Correct boys".

One boy doubled over in 'apparent' agony.
Another followed his team-mates lead, seeming to have caught on to the ploy.
"What's wrong boys?" asked the coach.
"The Possums are unbeatable coach. Haven't you heard of them?"
The coach, new to the area retorted "Well, no, I haven’t"... But he could tell from the look in their eyes that they were in trouble.

3 days later cars packed with Possum supporters streamed into the Seaforth Oval carpark. Engines revved as non-4wd's struggled to conquer the slippery dirt slopes of the well worn carpark.

Most didn't notice the eager group manning the canteen. The new facilities could have proved insurmountable to the Possum aligned volunteers, but holding true to tradition they seemed to have mastered the challenge.

The 10am kick off was a welcome relief for the under 7's, battle weary from a season of early starts in the under 6 football nursery the preceding year.

The crowd was small but building at 9.30am. Possums and Crows began to arrive. Some sucking lolly pops, others holding hands.

9.45am saw around half of the Possums assembled pitch side. Bryants were on orange duty, which had some bystanders worried as there was no sign of them. An anxiously awaited mobile phone call restored calm when it became apparent that the oranges (and Imogen) were close by.

Possum Parents started to question one another. So who are the Crows? Are they the red team over there? I thought they were orange with stripes proffered one novice.

9.55am Most Possums were dressed and ready to do what they do. Imogen Bryant struggled with her attractive, yet uncomfortable boots.

Possums manager Wayne Green peered across at his rivals. Expecting to be met with an equally cold glare, Green softened momentarily when his eyes met those of a man he thought to be crying. Moments passed and it became apparent that he was in fact crying. Green approached the man to offer some direction. He couldn't have the man distracting the Possums, so his direction was toward the canteen.

He motioned toward the canteen with both arms, but as he approached the man he noticed 4 players hidden behind his frame. "What's wrong with you?" he asked. The whimpering man responded "We're the Crows".

The weight of realization made Green step back. He counted. He had enough fingers on one hand to do the job and he thought for a moment, "that’s not right". "Where are the rest of them ?" Green asked.

"They all got sick when I told them we had to play the Possums. I signed up these kids on the way over here. I had to go that far to find someone who didn't know who the Possums are." The man pointed to the sorry assortment of new found Crows.

The ref made his way to the middle of the pitch.
"Can we borrow a player?" pleaded the Crows manager. "No" replied Green emphatically.

Silence came over the ground. A petite female voice was heard in the background saying "Mummy I will play against Jack, I can beat him". The child's mother explained the intricacies of insurance law to the eager child, but the explanation did not sit well and tears ensued.

Green knew the Possums were in need of a run. The Easter break had left the bunch a little underdone in the lead up to the season. He asked the team if anyone was prepared to play for the other team... against the Possums. He need not have asked. Once a Possum, always a Possum.

The whistle blew for kick off and the players streamed onto the field. The Crows were still one man down but to their credit decided to play on. They didn't after all understand what they were going into.

The obligatory game of paper, scissors, rock saw the Possums take the ball for the opening kick off. Just as the ball was tapped a man mountain of a child came thundering on to the Crows half.

Possum parents looked at one another in disbelief. "He isn't 7!" rang voices in tandem. But it was too late to challenge the 'child's' credentials as the game was underway.

The morning had warmed up significantly after the early morning dew evaporated. That was to challenge both sides as bench strength was dissipated through holiday related absences. 2 mins passed and the Possums were toying with their opposition. Were their minds on the job?

Green and other Possum parents boomed from the edges of the cauldron "C'mon Possums", "Mimmy... watch the ball!".

Then a mischievous Crow made the mistake of his life. "Hey, I can smell possum poo" called the naughty boy. It had an immediate effect. The crowd could almost see Patrick saying to himself that enough was enough. Other Possums looked at one another knowingly and nodded. Jack Tetley took the number of the boy, he would deal with that later.

Patrick Hickey charged down the field and belted the first Possum goal from close range. The Crows goalie seemed to freeze. It was unclear as to whether he even saw the ball. The Possums returned to the half way line with a sense of justice.

The kick off saw something unheard of. The under 7 giant boy caught the Possums off-guard and managed somehow to sneak a goal in behind the Possums defensive pattern.

Silence ensued. Real crows squawked eerily from the nearby woodlands. A brief chill came over the oval. The half time whistle blew, leading some to question whether the official timer had encountered any problems with his apparatus.

The Possums moved off the ground, gathering around their mentor Green. Some juicy navels were consumed, but the usual laughter that follows an orange peel mouth guard prank was strangely not there. Advice and encouragement flowed readily. Possums sparked up.

The ref (Rod) called time and the Possums motioned toward the centre. A vigilant Possum parent noted that all the Possums had made their way onto the field. That bode well for the second half and a Possum begrudgingly returned to the sideline to wait for the first interchange.

The next 15 mins passed quickly (more quickly than the first 15mins). The half was filled with excitement. Long range left foot attempts, excellent passages of aggression on (and off) the ball, deft ball handling with the ball being crossed from one side of the field to the other on multiple occasions. Sophie Chiswell dominated the second half play. Attacking the ball and defending like a fortress she also provided the pivotal ball delivery that cleared the way for Patrick to knock in his second goal for the day.

Jack Tetley delivered on his promise of the first half. The aggression was all above board but still brought the Crow to tears. A hint of a kick was explained away as being a spasm of some sort and play resumed. 2 minutes out from full time the unspeakable happened. The under 7 giant Crow reappeared and once again caught the Possums at a weak celebratory moment.

Green took a mental note to deal with that at next weeks training session.

1 minute out and the Possums were back pedalling. Ciara geared for a booming right foot bomb from the under 7 giant Crow. It wasn't required. The ref called time just as the Crows looked to threaten the goal for the last time. A communal phew released from the Possum crowd

Parents streamed onto the field to recover the battle weary Possums. A hard fought draw. Green amassed the Possums and cheered the Crows. The giant Crow was strangely missing from the post match congratulations. A parent shuffled the giant away before authorities could pose any questions.

Well done Possums especially to Sophie who was named the Possum player of the match.

Seaforth U6 Killer Whales V Beacon Hill YC

Final Score: 0:4

Congratulations!!! What a game. The final score was not in our favour but the sportsmanship was.

Abbey Hillier lead the team as Captain and proved to be a great asset, running and kicking in the right direction.

Great attacking skills shown in the first half especially by Tom Chapman. Tom came close to scoring on many occasions but the Eagles defence was just too good. Tom got his own back in the 2nd half as goalie and only let one ball pass him. Defensively he kept the score low for his Killer Whale team mates. Well done Tom who received our Player of the Match award.

Special mention too to Abbie Lewis for our most improved player. Keep it up Abbie.

- Report by Cath Hillier

Seaforth U6 Seals V Beacon Hill

A tough match this week, with players still in holiday mode and a very skilful opposition.

Harry was the most outstanding player this week, playing well all over the park. Charlie and Aidan showed some great speed in attack. With Adam and Tristan getting involved in chasing the ball. Kara and Corrine did well in goals, considering the solid attack from Beacon Hill.

The result didn't go our way, but everyone showed lots of enthusiasm and great team spirit.

Seaforth U6 Panthers v Manly Allambie Stingrays

The Panthers entered this game after a fortnight's rest, but with a depleted reserve bench and with players recovering from the end of a gruelling first school term and the ravages of winter colds. Overcoming these obstacles would see the Panthers mark themselves as a team not to be taken lightly.

Even before the game was under way it was clear that Coach Haslam and his team had not been idle over the Easter break, with the Panthers immediately forming a classic 2-2-1 formation. Harry took his place in goal, Gabriel in defence, Daniel and William in midfield and Lily and Lloyd in attack. Meanwhile the Stingrays adopted an aggressive 5-0-0 formation.

The opening whistle was still ringing in the oppositions' ears (do Stingray have ears?) when Lily opened her account for the day, a mere 15 seconds into the match. It was a sign of things to come. Her darting, weaving runs continued relentlessly throughout the first half and saw her score another seven times. Gabriel was unlucky not to add to the first half tally when his seventh minute corner kick arched over the goalkeeper's head but ricocheted off the near post. Lloyd, William and Daniel provided some seamless forward passing throughout, creating many holes in the Stingray's defence. However, the Panthers did not have it all their own way in the opening period with Harry being required to make a number of heroic saves, the last of which was right on half time.

Eight-nil to the Panthers at half time.

A resurgent Stingray team mounted frequent attacks on the Panther goal in the second period. Lloyd was called upon numerous times to defend and he answered the challenge flawlessly. Lily, who wore the goalie's jersey in the second half, ensured the Stingrays would go home disappointed with several fine saves, including one notable full-stretch dive. Despite the heat and the tempo of the game Daniel, William, Gabriel and Harry all played tirelessly in attack. The highlights of the second half were a full length run by Harry, a passage of mesmerising passing between Daniel, William and Harry and a strong strike by Gabriel forcing a finger-tip save by the Stingray goalie. It was not until a minute before full time that the Panthers added to their first half total, when Gabriel found the net.

Final score: Nine-nil to the Panthers.

Well done team and well played Stingrays.

Seaforth U6 Cobras vs Manly Vale Stingrays

Match score:
Them: Many
Us: 1

The Cobras were keen to get started after their holiday break. In the first half Alex made his debut and scored our first goal (a long range one at that). So well done.

Thomas worked well in goals whilst Lachlan, Liam, Gus and Alex were very energetic in defence. Ned and Henry displayed some good ball skills and had some success getting the ball down our end.

In the second half Tom was given a work out in goals. He saved a couple of beauties but the competition was tough. Well done to the other team who had some excellent strikers. Jack put in a good effort and tried hard in this half (keep it up).

Congratulations to Liam who was this weeks man of the match.

Thanks to coach Andrew for his words of encouragement! (Back to the drawing board?)

Seaforth U7 Bandits V CC Strikers

Seaforth U7 Panthers vs Avalon Cobras

Result: Draw 1-1

Another physical and exciting game. Our boys were up to the task. Everyone pitched in with some awesome passing, attack and great defense.

Both goals were scored in the first half, ours by Bryan and, although there were plenty of opportunities for each team to score in the second half, neither team could penetrate the strong final defense lines.

We (all the mums and dads) are just so impressed with how much they have improved from last year.

Star of the Week went to Bryan Donaghy for his superb goal and all round play and the Coaches Award went to Jordan McPherson for good passing. Well done to Oscar, Mackenzie, Ryan, Frank, Alex and Robert for a great team effort.

Seaforth U7 Seaforth Seals Vs Manly Vale Wolves

We started out strong with Matt in goals however the Wolves were giving us a run for our money. Nic C, Todd, William, Philip, Ben C and Liam played their best but the Wolves were too strong and scored two goals.

The second half was just as fun with Liam in goals. Plenty of great moves were made however the Wolves slipped in another 2 goals. Well done Seals and Wolves.

Players of the match was hard to pick this week however they went to Todd, Nicholas C and Nick V. Great effort guys. The mascot went home with Liam.

Seaforth U7 Whitepointers Vs Wakehurst Cheetahs

Result: Seaforth won 6/1

After 2 weeks break, the Whitepointers were ready for a challenge... so after Cheetahs scored after 5 minutes, we were worried!

Will soon evened the score with a spectacular run from ½ way, leaving the opposition in his wake. Marlow did an excellent job as goalie in the first ½, not afraid to throw himself onto the ball & stop a goal. Eliza & Charlotte persisted in the pack and steadily fed the ball out towards the goal.

Lucie got points for enthusiasm and hated being subbed off and as always put in a gutsy effort, closely missing a goal. Tom & Will were sensational with 4 & 2 goals respectively.

Ethan's ball skills improve every week and he continues to be a strong team player. Sam must have been practicing over the break because he was tireless in attack.

Last but not least, our Player of the match was Oliver. To prove that scoring goals is not the only way to be the strength of the team, Oli showed determination, and courage as goalkeeper, saving multiple goal attempts from the opposition, especially in the dust and surrounded by 4 or 5 sets of boots in his face. Then he'd boot the perfect ball back to the players.

Well done Whitepointers

Tom 4
Will 2

Seaforth U7 Crows Vs Allambie-Manly Vale Knights

After a 2 week lay-off the team was keen and ready to play. As usual pre game warm ups with coach Gary had the desired effect of psyching out the opposition.

Crows started the game strongly with early pressure on Knights goal. A long range shot from Will just missed the goal. Continued pressure from the Crows resulted in a couple of corners. Callum had 2 shots both missing to the right.

It wasn't until halfway through the first half that Allambie mounted any pressure, but as usual Finlay's defence was up to the challenge. Allambie continued to pressure but good defence and a good save from goalie Alex G. left the scores locked at nil all. A penalty kick to the Crows just on half time relieved the pressure and we went to the break even.

Gary's motivational half time speech and the energy from the fruit saw the Crows start the second half strongly. Jacob attacked aggressively and had a good shot at goal only to be denied. Lilly continued the pressure with another shot which was saved. In the 4 th minute Zac produced a great kick to break the deadlock; 1 nil to the Crows.

This inspired the team and Will and the two Alex's attacked strongly. The team's passing and general awareness has improved dramatically. The opposition had little answer to some great defence from Jacob and Callum in goal. The highlight of the match came in the 10th minute when Alex G. took the ball 10 metres outside Allambie's goal circle. He launched a blistering kick which hit the back of the net before coach Gary could get out the words "Don't kick from there son…." 2 nil to the Crows and the game was as good as over.

Overall a great team performance. Skill levels are up this year and the team is playing with confidence. Winner of the crow mascot was Alex M. Player of the match Alex G.

Go you Crows !!!!!!

Seaforth U8 Falcons V Forest Killarney Tigers

Result: Seaforth Falcons 2 Forest Killarney Tigers 6

The Falcons were up against tough opposition this week and played a very challenging game against the Tigers which had everyone watching with great anticipation!

A swift attempt by the Tigers to score a goal in the first minute of play was quashed by a spectacular save by Jamie, our goalkeeper in the first half. The Falcons then worked very hard together to keep up with the fast pace of the game with some excellent tackles and passes by Joey, Nick, Alexander, Will, Rory, Kevin, Jack and Domenico.

The Falcons commenced the second half of the game with a new surge of determination and the first minute of play was again marked by another great game moment played by Jamie - this time it was our first goal for the match. Kevin demonstrated some very skillful turns of the ball, Alexander delivered a highly commendable performance as goalkeeper while Jack impressed us all with a dramatic goal attempt.

Although the final score didn't give us a win, each and every member of the Falcons team should be very proud of their continually improving skills, their strong team spirit and, overall, an extremely well played game.

Great work team!

Seaforth U8 Leopards vs Raiders Eagles

The game had only just begun when Max tore away with the ball to score the first goal of the game – we were on the board!

After a great corner kick by Jayden there was a melee of players in the box, but brave work by the Eagles goalie stopped us from scoring. All the action remained at our end, and lots of great defense work and ball skills shown by Jayden and Jack. Some well paced kicks by Bailey got the ball back to our end for several more goal tries by Max, Emerson and Keiran, all of which were blocked by the Eagles keeper, with half time score at 1-0.

In the second half the whole team showed lots of teamwork and passing to make the goal opportunities. Emerson scored one goal, Max another and Keiran scored a hat trick leaving the fulltime result at 6-0.

Well done to our goal keepers, Nicholas and Jayden, who managed to remain alert, even though not much action for them this game.

Congratulations Leopards – a fantastic game from all.

Seaforth Ladies 12/3 Stingers V Pittwater Panthers

Kitchener Park, Mona Vale: Sunday 22 April
Result: Seaforth Stingers 3 Pittwater Panthers 3

This was a game that really got away from the Stingers. Seaforth dominated field position and our young ladies created more chances, but a failure to finish off more of those chances gave the Panthers a share of the points.

The Stingers started brightly, putting all the early pressure on the Pittwater goal, and after 10 minutes Claudia opened the scoring with a great strike from about 5 metres that gave the goalie no chance. She was set up by a beautiful ball into the middle from Emily Dugan, who beat several players to provide the perfect cross.

Pittwater equalised soon after a goal-mouth scramble, but then the Stingers scored again. Once again Claudia found the back of the net after some wonderful work, down the left side this time, by Xenia. She created the space, crossed the ball, and a toe-poke was enough to beat the goalie.

Once again, Pittwater came back and equalised with a well-taken goal, but the Stingers came back strongly and managed to get their noses in front for the third time in the match. All the pressure came down the left thanks to an aggressive run from Emily Fowler, and Claudia grabbed her hat-trick from the subsequent goal kick.

The second half was a very intense affair. Seaforth once again dominated proceedings, but couldn't manage another goal. It was the Panthers who stepped up to grab the only goal of the half and tie it up 3-all, thanks to a wonderful solo run and fine shot.

A very pleasing feature of the Stingers play again today was the quality of the passing. The girls are always looking to help each other, and the quality of their passing game created two of the three goals.

Special thanks to Rory and Laura (and a dad) from the Under 10 Seaforth Devils, who answered the SOS call for players right before the match. They made great contributions.

Seaforth Ladies 12/3 Stingers V Belrose

Result: Seaforth Stingers 0 Belrose 1
Easter Monday April 9 at County Road Belrose

The Stingers will look back on this contest on a muddy field at Belrose as one that got away. The girls had at least 25 shots at goal and not one managed to make it into the back of the net. One was held up only a couple of centimetres from the Belrose line, thanks to the mud, but football is measured in millimetres and the Stingers couldn't go the distance today.

That wasn't for want of trying. Easter is always a difficult time to put a team together, and this Easter Monday was no exception. The Stingers could muster only seven of their regular contingent, and many thanks must go to the four young ladies who stepped up to help out. Thanks to them, and to their mums and dads. Three of the "ring ins" had their own game to play immediately afterwards, and they exemplified the Seaforth spirit.

That was amply demonstrated on the pitch. The Stingers passing was a feature of the game once again, and the skills shone through despite the boggy conditions underfoot. The girls kept going until the final whistle, but Belrose took their chance well late in the first half to score the only goal of the game.

Imogen was the stand-out in a team that never stopped trying. She chased everything and worked hard throughout. Our two goalies also did well, Georgia stopping a good shot in the first half and Daisy pulling off two great saves in the second.

Training resumes on Tuesday 17th April. See you there. Happy Easter break to everyone.

Seaforth U6 Cobras vs Narrabeen Neptunes

Match Score
Them 1
Us 0

The Cobras first match was a great success. In the first half Gus, Lachlan, Henry, Jack and Liam led the attack, whilst Ned was strong in goals. Nothing got past him. Then Tom and Thomas got on the field and showed us what they are made of.

In the second half Liam was fantastic in goals and saved some beauties.

Well done to Lachlan who was this weeks man of the match. He was not only good in defense but really opened up the field in attack.

We can't wait until our next match when we will unleash our secret weapon - Alex!!!!

Seaforth U6 Panthers v Mosman Crocodiles

The Panthers stamped their intentions on the under 6 competition with an emphatic win in their first match.

One minute after the opening whistle Lily Schnitzler found the back of the net. She was back on the ledger a minute later with a well constructed length of the pitch run providing the team's second goal. A passage of excellent team-work followed, characterised by skilful passing by Harry Almond and darting runs by Lloyd Haslam and Daniel Pudig, which was finished off by Gabriel McGuire who scored in the fourth minute. Gabriel was unlucky not to add to his tally when he hit the near post in the fifteenth minute.

Rock-solid defence from Connor Rush Fellay and an impenetrable Torben Ungemach in goal foiled all of Mosman's first half counter attacks.

Three-nil to the Panthers at half time!

Coach John Hasslam's stirring half time talk saw impressive second half performances from Wiley Austin and William Irwin, both showing fine skills and physically imposing play. The pattern of the opening period continued with five more goals coming from Lily's boot and both Torbin and Wiley narrowly missing with fine attempts. Meanwhile Daniel Pudig ensured the Panthers net remained untouched.

Final score: Eight-nil to the Panthers!

Well done team on a great result and on playing with so much joy and enthusiasm.

Seaforth U6 Bulldogs vs Wakehurst Piranhas

Piranhas 3 (however, one of their goals scored by a Bulldog who was helping numbers!)
Bulldogs 1

Our first game ever. The girls did a great job. The Piranhas were 1 player short, and so with wonderful sportsmanship, Abi played for them in the first half, and Zoe in the second half. Zoe even scored a goal for them!

In the first half, Rosie defended the goals well and the girls got into the swing of which way to run. Ciara scored a goal, with strong back up from Nina, Zoe, Leilani and Talia.

In the second half, Nina saved many an attempt at goal, with Rosie, Ciara, Leilani, Talia, Abi and Jasmine never giving up.

We can't wait to get out there and play again. Thanks, Coach Kylie!

Seaforth U6 Magpies V Shooting Stars

Magpies soar above the Stars with a 3-1 win

The Magpies got their footballing careers off to a flying start on Saturday with a stirring win against the Shooting Stars. After a tense start where neither side seemed entirely clear on which way to attack, Freddie Fitzhardinge broke free from the pack and stormed forward to open his account and put the Magpies into the lead.

A period of exciting end-to-end football followed, with Max Crotty-King and the Watzlawick twins showing pace and vision up front, whilst Dane Elliot's fearless goalkeeping saw him dive onto the ball at the feet of the Stars forwards on several occasions to preserve the lead. Just before half time a clever combination between Alexander Sperber and Callum Neal put Freddie through to double his account and send the Magpies into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw the Stars click into gear and exert early pressure, which was rewarded by a goal to narrow the gap. More pressure from the Stars was thwarted however by another fine display of goal-keeping by Caleb Miller. As the half wore on Alastair Hunter returned refreshed after a drinks break to feed the ball to Freddie, himself returning to the field of play after recovering from injury. Freddie kept his composure to calmly slot a third for a well-deserved hat-trick and seal a memorable 3-1 victory for the Magpies.

The Magpies look like they can go all the way this year...

Seaforth U6 Echidnas v Mosman Iguanas

Result: Echidnas 0 v Mosman Iguanas 2

A great first game for our Echidnas. All players worked together really well and played as a united team.

There was lots of encouragement from the excited parents on the sideline this week. Allan and Josh came really close to scoring but (due to a small case of hand ball one occasion by the opposition goaly) we we thwarted.

Our girls, in particular Olivia are shaping up to be real stars. Bailey and Josephine were our goalies and tried really hard to stop anything that came their way.

Josephine was player of the day. WELL DONE TEAM!

Seaforth U6 Kangaroos vs Seaforth Hawks

Result: Seaforth Kangaroos 0 Seaforth Hawks 1

A very close match conducted in a very fun and sportsman like manner. Vigorous handshakes were swapped with the opposition at the start and end of the match indicative of the teams' high spirits throughout. For spectators it was especially pleasing to see that the team at all times knew which way they were headed.

Our goal keepers were kept busy with many spectacular saves by Felix in the first half and Rafaelle in the second half. There were also some great forward skills by Jack, Jonah and Marcus. Ben, Leo and Julian also made significant contributions with some tough tackling.

Enthusiasm was also evident from the side lines with boys at all times keen to be with their mates on the field. A great game was played by all setting us up well for a fantastic season ahead.

U7 Seaforth Lionhearts vs Mosman Kingfishers

Score: 1-0 Seaforth Win

A beautiful morning to start off the season and the Lionhearts were raring to go. An early goal by Gabriel was never matched by the Kingfishers, as the Lionhearts goalies Marcus, Nick and Mayson blocked every attempt at goal!

We saw some fantastic running and kicking from Sam, Miranda, Cody and Emma, which never gave the Kingfishers much room to manoeuvre and kept them back from the Seaforth goals for most of the match.

The Mosman players were a very energetic and fast team but were unable to match the skills of the Lionhearts during two very well played halves.

Congratulations, Lionhearts!!!

U7 Seaforth Bandits vs Avalon Pandas

Score: 3-1 Bandits favour

A very enthusiastic Bandits team welcomed the first match of the season on Saturday. Two weeks of training and a break over summer has seen a great improvement this year and we started the match looking strong. The Bandits only new player, Isaac Hallett, started in goal and did a wonderful job. Our first goal was scored by Ryan Singleton, with the rest of the team helping pass the ball along and set up shots.

Claudia Wilson scored our second goal not long after, with our opposing team scoring their first goal just on half time.

The 2nd half of the game saw Lucas Nadj in the goal keeper's position and he allowed no further goals from the Pandas. Isaac scored our third and final goal and received our "Player of the Match" mascot. Well done!

Overall the kids all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed being back at soccer. The Bandits showed good team coordination and a marked improvement in foot work and staying with the ball. The Avalon Pandas were a great team to oppose and also played very well. Thanks to Paul Watcher for acting as ref and a big thank you to Tom Lovell for returning as our coach again this season.

U7 Seaforth Possums vs Seaforth U7 Bulldogs

What a great game for the opening of the 2007 Season. The Possums were up against some tough opposition in the Seaforth Bulldogs but after a slow start showed that they will again be competitive this season.

Despite some cool goal keeping by Chloe, the Bulldogs got away with a couple of early goals as the Possums settled into their game strategy. Very quickly the forward line of Zoe, Patrick, Jack and Ciara started to push forward and attacked the Bulldogs goal. This pressure was rewarded with goals by Patrick, who slammed the ball into the net after some great lead up work from Sophie, and by Josh who was eagerly seeking out opportunities to break through the Bulldog's defence.

A further goal to the Possums (Jack and Patrick) plus one against the play to the Bulldogs saw the score even at 3 all and the expectation that the remainder of the match would be a very tight contest. Sophie took over as goalie for the second half and worked hard at stopping the Bulldogs, whilst strong attacking from Ceili, Imogen and Bella saw numerous challenges on the Bulldogs goal. Unfortunately, luck was not to be on our side and one final goal from the Bulldogs saw the brave Possums go down 3 goals to 4.

The Possums showed lots of spirit and have clearly spent a lot of time in the off-season honing their skills and it is evident that they will be highly competitive this year. Zoe was named Possum Player of the Match for all of her hard work. Well done Zoe and the Possums and thanks to the Bulldogs for an exciting game.

U8 Seaforth Falcons 7 - Avalon Tigers Sharks 0

The Falcons were very excited about the season starting, particularly Rory and Nicholas who showed lots of energy getting involved in the game.

All the Falcons played well with the seven goals shared between Jamie and Joey. It was great to see the improvements from last season with some excellent passing being a feature of the match. Kevin especially made some great passes.

The goalkeeper role was shared between Dom and Jack and while they didn't have much to do while in goals, both showed some new dribbling skills when on the field. Will and Alexander made some strong tackles and cleared the ball well in defence.

Overall, it was a big win to start the season but most importantly the game was played in good fun spirit - well done.

Seaforth U7 Crows vs Manly Vale Wallabies

Result: Seaforth 2-0

Ist half: goalie - Findlay
Good pressure from Crows in opening minutes with a shot by Will in 4th minute. Manly return the favour with a shot at the Crows goal after turning play around. Findlay at goalie fed the ball nicely down the right side of the field, an excellent run and centring pass by Jacob results in a charge at goal by Zac. He shoots, he scores! Crows 1- Manly nil.

Several bustling runs up the centre of the pitch by Alex and a shot at goal in the 10th minute, as well as some deft passing; Lily aggressively fighting for and repeatedly stealing the ball; Jacob running freely with the ball and passing; George putting his body on the line in defence to halt some opposition high-paced attack;

Manly score with a break-away run breaking some uncertain Crows defence. Crows 1 - Manly 1. The closing minutes of the first half saw George again risking life and limb for Club and Country and an almighty header mid-pitch; Zac defended a Manly attempt at goal in the 14th minute and Alex made a massive clearing kick to relieve pressure.

2nd half: goalie - George
Half opens with bustling run by Alex and a shot by Callum in the 2nd minute. Manly then have a couple of shots at goal which George saves. Callum then beautifully positioned for a successful shot at goal after sustained pressure by the whole team. Crows 2 - Manly 1.

More great breaks by Alex and superb defence by Findlay with some great clearing kicks. Will makes a great full-pitch run from his own goal. Jacob continues to inject himself into the game at every opportunity. Meanwhile Alex shows his skills in defence to stop the ball in full flight, turn and then centre pass to Will who shoots and finds the post! George makes a diving save in goal to end the game.

All played hard in warm conditions; this form augers extremely well for the season. This team has increased their intensity and commitment to the ball since last season and have also begun to look for opportunities to pass.

An honourable mention goes to Alexander Moore and family for his attempt to play while ill and for supporting the team for the duration of the game. Great team spirit!

U8 Seaforth Leopards vs Manly Vale Lions

The first half saw some fantastic stops by Nick and a couple of great attempts on goal by Max and Kieran. Finally Kieran snuck the ball into the goal and later on in the half managed to hook a goal in directly over the goalie.

The second half saw no more goals scored by the Leopards, but Jadon took over the goalie position and rescued the game by making some beautiful saves which earned him the Man of the Match award. Manly Vale managed to get one goal past him and there were some great runs by Max and another attempt by Kieran on goal. So by the time the final whistle blew the Leopards took the game 2-1.

Well done, Leopards! A great start to the season!

Seaforth LA12/3 Stingers 5 V Forest Killarney 0

Sunday April 1 at Seaforth Oval

A wonderful start to the football year for the Stingers, who showed great composure and superior soccer skills to outclass a gutsy Forrest-Killarney side. The visitors never stopped trying, but the Stingers shut down every raid with great efficiency, and applied sufficient pressure to create the chances. The result was an avalanche of goals.

The first goal came on the 7 minute mark. Seaforth forced the first of many corners, and Xenia rammed home a fierce right-foot shot as the ball was played in. Both teams were playing speedy, end-to-end football, but the Stingers passing and team-work were marginally better, and the half-time margin of 1-nil reflected that slight edge.

The second half was a dramatically different affair. The pressure continued, and the girls were rewarded with a flood of goals.

Georgia was put into the forward line (after spending the first half as goalie) and scored after just 3 minutes. The Stingers forced another corner, and the keeper could only parry a hard shot from Xenia. Georgia was right on the spot to apply the pressure and score.

She featured in the next goal too, bustling her way into the box before passing off to Amber who slotted the goal from close range.

Xenia was on the score-sheet again moments later, again from a corner kick. The ball came in, Xennie touched once, turned and banged it home from a very acute angle.

And Emily made it 5-nil with an exquisite piece of footballing brilliance: she picked up a ball that was threaded through the midfield, outsprinted the fullback with sheer pace and fired home a rocket of a shot, giving the keeper no chance at all.

This was a bright start to the season for the Stingers. Their composure under pressure and excellent passing were features of the game. They were well-organised at the back and in the mid-field, and the pressure they exerted was rewarded with some excellent goals. Well done, ladies: a bright start indeed.
