Reports 28th/29th June 2008
Seaforth U6 Bears v Harbord Piranhas
Sunny morning and the Bears were ready to play.
Could tell it was going to be a tough game as the opposition players looked big.
The Bears started off full of attack in the first half and scored some great goals. Jordan, Benny and Eddie contributed with excellent attack and was helped with great defence by Ethan, Jayden, Sam & Rex. Cameron also kept the Piranhas scoreless as 'keeper in the first half. The Bears played all over the opposition in the first half, there was excellent team work that I was proud of.
The 2nd half was much more even and the Piranhas started to put some goals against the Bears. This was something the Bears were not used too and the parents were expecting our first loss. However the Bears showed a lot of character and kept their heads up.
The boys through great team work managed to score a late equalising goal which made it a great match. Special mention to Sam who made a great save in goal in the 2nd half, and the player of the match Ethan who did a fabulous defending effort.
All the boys showed that they enjoyed themselves even with a close pressure game.
Final score 4 all draw. Well done Bears, still on top of the comp.
Piranhas coach mentioned they had a few losses. There will be a few more challenging games ahead.

Seaforth U6 Falcons vs BVL Wildcats
It was cold and frosty and the Falcons were ready for a run.
Angus was keen to go in goals and stopped the Wildcats from scoring. Billy was ready to show Dad how good he can kick and goal and did twice just in case he didn't see the first time. Javier was playing up in front row and did some great passes out to the wing. Tom and Brinn had their work cut out for them on the wing but fought with smiles on their faces.
Ned found his feet and showed Happy Feet a thing or two and went on and scored his first goal. Way to go Ned. Pat and Callum were not short of the action and played some ready Soccer. Ben played some amazing passes and Pat went on and scored another goal for the Falcons. Well done.
The Falcons could not wait to start the second half and with Javier in goals we were looking strong. Angus was keen to a run and played some of his best Soccer. Callum was red in the face and was not ready to give up. Tom ever so strong in defence covered the field and seemed to be in the right place at all times.
Ned was fired up and liked the take of that goal. With Pat, Bill and Ben up front we were starting to be a strong team. Pat and Bill went and scored 2 more goals. Brinn although not scoring the goals set up many attempts.
It is amazing how quick you boys are learning. Coach and extended familes are all so proud of the Falcons.
Final score was 6-0, with the Mascot going to Angus and Players of the Match to Brinn, Ned and Pat. Great game.

Seaforth U7 Killer Whales v Dee Why Grellas
It was a perfect day for a soccer match, The Killer Whales v The Grellas.
The girls started off defending well and attacking the opposition with everything they had. Parissa and Rosie were all over the opposition in both defence and attack. Parissa put her body on the line to save a few goals in the first half as goalie.
Meg had another good game as did Chloe Irving. Renee was back in full force after a few weeks off and was all over the field, as was Katie who was player of the match this week and is improving every week. Adelaide helped out in goal once again in the second half.
An excellent determined goal was scored by Jamie at the end, which was the goal of the match.
It was a great effort by the girls considering the referee was not sure on the goal kick rules which advantaged the opposition.
Another fabulous performance by the Killer Whales who continue to lift every week.

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Avalon Cougars
With nearly everyone running late, it was a bit of a scramble to get on the field for this match. Perhaps that accounts for our slow start and a bit of a lack of teamwork throughout the game.
Stirling and Jordan showed the highest workload this game. Jordan did well at fullback, turning a lot of balls around and making some key tackles to shut down the Avalon attack. Stirling worked hard in the midfield, chasing down breakaways and keeping the ball moving forward and was unlucky to have a goal disallowed in the first half.
Jay showed his usual composure over the ball, even though the opposition defence was putting us under constant pressure. Eddie showed great positional play in attack, but it proved difficult for his teammates to send the ball his way at the right time. Byron was busy as usual, chasing and trying to find some space, while Ben was one of our most enthusiastic in attack, working with Wayne to put together our best chances for a goal.
Michael kept busy in the first half on the field, and when switched to goalie saved a certain goal with a brave stop once all our other defence had been beaten.
A spirited opposition who were quick and ferocious tacklers made it difficult to play our usual free flowing game. We did well to scrap and compete for most of the match, but it was a case of our opposition making the most of the two chances we gave them.

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Mosman Rattlers
In previous match reports I have preached about the irrelevance of the result.
I have of course failed to point out that, like all general rules, there are exceptions.
Games against Mosman are one such exception.
This week the Seaforth Panthers played the Mosman Rattlers.
Seaforth won 3-1.
Enough said!

Seaforth U8 Seals vs MYV Eagles
The Seals were still fired up from last weeks win and were ready for some tough competition.
Ben C went into goals and found this team a challenge. Stopped some amazing attempts however one slipped over his head. The Seals were getting nervous and Nic C with a sore leg found running a challenge, however he went to a goal... bingo.
With the score 1 all Matt and Nick V could bearly stand the pressure. Will was calm and focused and played great defence with Ben V by his side. The Seals were showing the strain and Todd held his ground and showed some great footwork.
Second half the Seals were looking nervous and Ben V played really well in goals, with only 2 goals slipping past. Will was playing some of his best soccer and showed great team support. Well done Will.
Ben C was ready for a run and found his work cut out for him. After a number of attempts went and scored 2 goals. Great effort Ben. Nic C and Liam both with injured legs played like professionals, with plenty of support from Matt and Todd.
Nick V tried and tried to score but just found it too hard to get around the Eagles. Great game. One of our best games ever with the final score being 3-3. Great effort Seals.
Players of the Match went to Nick V and Nic C. Mascot to Liam.

Reports 21st/22nd June 2008
Seaforth U6 Bears v Wakehurst Whales
The Bears again started off with great attack. All players were getting first to the ball and again dominating the opposition. Benny started off a goalie in first half and played well, however did not see much of the ball due to the constant pressure and defence by Sam, Cameron and Jayden. Many goals were scored in the first half by the boys, and all contributed with excellent team work. Superb goals and attack in the first half by Ethan, Jordan and Eddie.
The 2nd half was much of the same with great attack and defence by the Bears. Benny came out of goal and started scoring some great goals with Jordan and Eddie. Ethan, Sam and Cameron kept more pressure on the Whales and helped the team with a comfortable victory. Jayden did excellent in goal in 2nd half and played and all around excellent game for a boy who was sick with the flu. He backed up in the last 5 minutes on the field and Jordan then took over as keeper as a good team player. Jordan was the player of the match and had an excellent game.
Well done again Bears. Final Score: Bears 13 Whales 1
In addition Benny and Eddie helped the Under 7 Killer Whales girls team. Eddie was great keeper first half in goal and scored a goal in the 2nd half. Benny was goalie 2nd half and saved many goals. Thanks boys.

Seaforth U7 Killer Whales V Mosman Geckos
Another great performance by the Killer Whales. Only 4 girls turned up, but they had a superb game. Jamie, Parissa, Meg and Rosie were running all over the oval and did some great team work with the boys that helped out. Eddie from the U6's scored a nice goal for the Whales and was helped by the excellent attack by the girls. Benny from the U6's was in goal 2nd half and also helped out with some great saves.
All girls were unlucky not to score on many occasions. The girls had an excellent game and were having a lot of fun. They are starting to develop into a great team. Let's hope they do not go to netball next year. (which is not much of a sport anyway).
Rosie with her excellent running in defence and attack was the player of the match. Rosie, Jamie and Parissa had that much fun they end up having another game with the boys U7's. They all had a fantastic game.
Chloe Driessen has had some bad luck and broke her arm earlier in the week. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope she is back for the last couple of games.
Well done Killer Whales.

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Pittwater Barracudas
After the long trip to Kitchener Park, the boys were keen to get into the action on the field against Pittwater. It was good to see some real energy from the start with the whole team throwing themselves into the match.
Stirling was involved in everything in the first half. He swung into a clever corner from Jay that hit the post, put another shot whistling over the crossbar and was finally rewarded with our first goal. Jordan was unlucky not to score after a fantastic passage of play where he won the ball, passed it wide to Stirling, then positioned himself beautifully to receive the cross back.
Meanwhile Michael started the match with a bang and was as involved as I have seen him, making some crucial tackles, and then putting the ball forward. It was good to see Eddie making copybook tackles all over the park, and when he received a long clearing kick in some space, he capitalised by controlling the ball well, moving down the left hand side of the field and finishing with a well struck goal.
Byron welcomed being released from goalkeeper and was a man on a mission in the second half. He chased everything and made a number of chances due to his excellent positional play. Ben made an immediate impact when he came on and his fresh legs saw him chasing chances and breaking away from the opposition. A welcome sight was Wayne chasing and tackling as well as his usual heavy involvement in attack.
Jay's game featured some excellent passing, putting Stirling, Byron and Eddie into space at various times. He also showed some neat ball control, turning and shooting and well deserved his goal late in the game.
The referee congratulated us after the match as a skilful team who played the game well and most importantly, in the right spirit. Well done Hawks.

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Seaforth Bulldogs
A former English football manager, when asked about a friendly match against Germany, gruffly said "There is no such thing as a friendly match". A renowned contemporary social commentator once claimed that football was like a revolution, except that a football lasted longer and created more casualties. Recent newspapers carry headlines of sports-related violence both on and off the field. And so, this week's game prompted the question - are our sub--uniors doomed to follow this aggressive trend?
The answer to that question became clear before kick-off when the Panthers and the Bulldogs laid eyes on each other as they ran onto the pitch. Not only was this Seaforth against Seaforth, it was schoolmate against schoolmate, it was an opportunity to re-kindle old romances ignited years ago in the Blue Kindy sand pit. It was puppy love (which is like no other love) and it was a joy to behold.
The Panthers played beautiful football. Harry kicked handsomely. Gabriel had some gorgeous runs. Lloyd produced one of his loveliest performances to date. Luke created opportunities and ran with great appeal. Daniel engaged in some delightful passing. William provided a wonderful defensive display. Conor was impressive as ever. Twinkle-toes Torben ran and pranced like a young Russian ballet dancer and scored from a delightful corner kick. Lily scored the team's second goal, playing with so much love that even the Bulldogs were left salivating for more.
The Bulldogs too produced some pretty performances. Annabel was astounding in defence. Abby produced some attractive passages of play. Rosie was so good she would have smelt as sweet by any other name. When the Bulldogs scored, in their first goal for the season, there was so much jubilation amongst the players and their parents that there was not a dry eye around the field.
Although the Panthers won 2 - 1, the result was irrelevant. It was an uplifting, courteous display by both teams, marked by respect for each other and a love of the game, which of course is as it should be. After all the whole point of football is the pure joy of running in the fresh air, kicking a ball and creating friendships. And as any 6 year old worth his salt will tell you, it is far better to make friends than to make headlines.
Player of the match: Torben
Most improved: Lloyd

Seaforth U8 Seals vs FKY Tigers
The Seals were all hopeful for a great game of soccer, with Liam in goals first half he stopped the Tigers from scoring. Will and Nick V were steady and the Tigers had a hard time getting past them. Matt was fired up and played great defence. Ben C was happy to be in front row this week and went and scored 3 goals. Way to go Ben.
Todd was ever so keen to have a shot and took aim. Bingo another goal. Ben V played some of his best defence which paid off and the Tigers could not get past him. Nic C was ever so keen to have a shot and managed to score another 2 goals. Go the Seals.
2nd half the boys were all keen with the score so far being 6 - 0. Nick V found himself in goals with Will and Liam full of energy. Matt was getting down because he wanted to score and patience paid off with 2 goals to his name. Well done Matt. Todd did plenty of talking and went and scored his second goal.
Ben V almost scored his first goal but was unlucky. Ben C was having the time of his life and scored another 3 goals. Wow Ben. The game was over with the final score being 14-0. The Seals didn't want to stop however the awards helped.
Mascot went to Ben V and Players of the Match went to Ben C and Matt. Way to go Seals.

Seaforth U6 Bears V Beacon Hill Pumas
It was a very cold and windy morning.
The toss was lost and the Bears were running against the breeze and up hill in the first half.
The Pumas kept attacking in our half. However excellent defense by the Bears kept them from scoring. Cameron, Jayden and Sam were keeping the Pumas out of the goal mouth, and the Pumas only had a few shots on goal which were saved by our great keeper Eddie. Benny was playing well up front but could not break through due to the wind. Rex was trying hard and was putting good pressure on the Pumas.
The coach was happy to go in at half time at 0-0. However, the goal of the season then came. Jordan took the ball from his own half, dribbled around 5 Puma players against the wind and up hill and scored a fantastic goal. Well done Jordan. However we were not finished there, another goal was scored before half time. Jordan did a nice pass to Ethan who slotted the ball nicely pass the keeper and just went over the line.
Half time score 2-0 to the Bears. Best half of the year mainly due to the defense.
In the 2nd half the wind was on our side and it was time to show what the Bears can really do. Eddie started the 2nd half running everywhere and just missing a goal, playing excellent in attack and defense. Benny now with the breeze started playing his usual great attacking game and scoring some great goals with Jordan who added to his first half goal.
Jayden played a great 2nd half as keeper letting only 1 unlucky goal at the end. Cameron and Ethan did a lot of excellent running in the middle of the park helping set up the goals with their nice touches. Rex still kept running helping his side to another win.
Sam was the player of the match with his excellent commitment and celebrating a Happy Birthday.
Another win to the Bears. Result:- Seaforth Bears 7 BHL Pumas 1.

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Wakehurst Tigers
A windy and freezing Seaforth Oval was the scene for this clash against our strongest opposition yet, a well-drilled Wakehurst team with an intense and driven coach and supporters.
The boys started well, adapting to the speed of the Tigers' game and concentrating on their opposition at throw-ins and goal kicks. Byron was one of our best in the first half, chasing down numerous Wakehurst breakaways, and working the ball forward using good teamwork. This was a tough game with the defense of both sides closing down quickly on the player with the ball, but Ben used his speed to find room to pass to his teammates and send the Hawks into attack. Jordan played his usual solid game in the midfield, with an especially strong first half where he used his body well to gain possession and turn the ball around for us.
Jay and Stirling were the two who looked most threatening in attack for the Hawks with both boys having multiple shots on goal, so it was fitting when they combined with Stirling passing to Jay who banged home the opening goal of the match.
The second half was tight early, with Eddie showing his fresh legs by exploding into a gap off a pass from Wayne then striking the ball hard, but was denied by the 'keeper. The Tigers then managed to draw even with a lucky goal that deflected off one of our own players. Michael, who worked hard in the field in the first half, made some excellent saves as goalie to continue his good work and keep us in the match.
The game opened up a little as both teams tired of the end-to-end running and Wakehurst scored a late goal as the result of a good individual effort. Congratulations on another good game by the Hawks against a quick and skilful opposition.

Seaforth U7 Killer Whales v Brookvale Bluebottles
It was a very cold windy day, but everyone was ready to play.
The girls once again had to play against mainly boys, however they were all over them in the 1st half. A lot of excellent running and attacking by Chloe Driessen, Parissa and Rosie who were all unlucky not to score in the 1st half.
Chloe Irving, Kate and Meg had a strong game in the 1st half and helped restrict the Blue Bottles to no goals.
The 2nd half was much more difficult as we were running against the wind. However the girls still played all over the Bluebottles and were the better team. Rosie again was unlucky to score as the ball stopped just before the line.
Player of the Match was Meg who tried hard all game.
Thank you to Adelaide again who helped us out and saved many goals.
Another excellent effort by the girls who are still getting better each game.
Well done Killer Whales.

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Collaroy Cromer Strikers Milligans
There comes a time in sub-junior football when the penny drops; a time when a team abandons the bee-swarm approach to attacking the ball and instead plays expansively; a time when all of the coach's hard work pays dividends.
The penny dropped for the Panthers this week with such clarity it sounded like a clarion call heralding in a new dawn. It was the sound of individuals becoming a team and it sounded superb.
The previous blank expressions when the coach explained his game plan were absent this week, replaced instead with nods of recognition. Kicking and chasing? Sure, no problem. Passing and running into space? Yeah, we can do that. Keeping in shape? Not bunching up? Too easy, give us something hard to do.
The team played in beautiful harmony. Lily and Luke combined in attack, with Gabriel and Torben playing just behind. Harry and Daniel paired off in the midfield and Conor and Lloyd took up defensive roles. William kept goal in the first half and Gabriel took over in the second half, holding out a barrage of attacks. Although each player performed well individually, in combination they came together like an orchestra of virtuosos. They ran the perimeters, they passed ahead of running team-mates and they marked the opposition in defence.
Although the Panthers won 5-1, the real victory last Saturday was a conquest of the group over the individual.
It was a symphony of synchronicity; a concerto of collaboration. It was the sound of a team coming together.
What a beautiful noise!
Man of the match: Conor

Ladies U14/3: Seaforth Superheroes 0 Beacon Hill 3
At Miller Reserve, Sunday 15 June
The Superheroes tried hard on a freezing morning, but were overwhelmed by a bigger and more physical team that took their few chances well. By contrast, we failed to capitalise on our chances in front of goal, and paid the price.
Beacon Hill began brightly with a strong wind and rain at their backs, and they went in front at the 10 minute mark. Seaforth failed to clear the ball from the box and a sharp shot from close range gave Anna Rose no chance.
Moments later, we created the best chance of the half: the ball came up from the back, Jorja laid a lovely pass to Claudia, but the ball hit the mud in front of goal and stopped. The goalie came running out and the ball was poked wide.
Suddenly Seaforth was applying all the pressure: Maddi blazed a shot just wide, Jorja brought a classy save from the Beacon Hill goalie and Ella, Nina and Laura were busy at the back. Against the run of play, Beacon Hill finally managed another shot on goal (only the 2nd of the half) but a high ball was neatly caught by Anna Rose.
Into the second half, and the Seaforth ladies started well with the wind and rain at their backs. The Superheroes forced a series of early corners: Bec hit the post from one, and the goalie was required to make some decent saves from others.
Suddenly, late in the half and against the run of play, Beacon Hill grabbed two more goals. They were very similar: the ball was cleared from the back, taken through the midfield to the forward line, and their strikers gave Charli no chance.
There was no shortage of effort by the Superheroes but we just couldn't find the back of the net today. Conditions certainly didn't help but our opponents made the most of their chances and we didn't. Plenty to work on at training!
