SFC Leads the way in Coach Education!

Skill Trainer Course - March 2014

SFC Leads the way in Coach Education!

Last week Seaforth Football Club hosted one of the first Skill Trainer Certificate courses held at club level in the MWFA (see photo above). Of the 16 coaches who participated in the course, 15 were from our club which is fantastic! In February we also had coaches attend the inaugural course at Cromer Park. At SFC we pride ourselves on providing and ensuring our coaches have as many opportunities as possible to be educated to the highest degree in our own backyard – Seaforth Oval.

This in turn means our players are being taught by qualified coaches with the most up to date information directly from the National Curriculum (available for all parents to read on our website).

On April 16, we are hosting a Grassroots Coaching Course at Seaforth Oval from 6.30 – 9pm. This is a free course for coaches of sub-junior teams (u6-u9), and coaches of other age groups are welcome to attend. We cover lots of great practical activities and games for young players and some very important information on how to handle players discipline, engaging players, keeping training sessions fun and how best to ensure your players sign up again next season.

MiniRoos Games – Introduction

MINIROOS

INTRODUCTION

Football Federation Australia (FFA) is excited to announce the introduction of ‘MiniRoos’ as Football’s new junior participation brand for boys and girls aged 5 – 11.

MiniRoos will replace Small sided Football as the new name and brand for junior football.

MiniRoos is the launch of an umbrella brand to unifying grassroots junior football in Australia. It is the first step for boys and girls on a pathway to a life in football.

Together, the Football Family can ensure MiniRoos becomes the most popular junior sports brand in Australia.

What does this mean for associations and local football clubs?
Firstly, it is important to note there will be NO change to the Small sided Football national playing formats, nor its administration or delivery.

Launch plans
MiniRoos will be officially launched on Monday 3 February as part of the Hyundai A-League’s Play Football Round. The launch will occur via FFA’s digital and social channels and be complemented by Football NSW communications. Additional MiniRoos promotional activities will take place throughout the first half of the year at major events including both the Socceroos & Matilda’s farewell matches and the 2013/14 Hyundai ALeague Finals series. Club and Player Services

To support the push for MiniRoos to be the most popular junior sports brand in Australia, FFA and Football NSW will provide a range of services to support associations and clubs including but not limited to:

1. A new MiniRoos website which will house a number of resources for club administrators, coaches and parents;

2. The administration and delivery of free grassroots coaching courses;

3. Supporting materials for coaches, including the launch of a new digital coaching resource as well as the ‘Football for Kids’ coaching handbook;

4. The appointment of MiniRoos ambassadors to help promote the new brand and participation in football;

5. Promotional activities within local schools; and

6. Distribution of promotional materials to assist clubs with their recruitment endeavours.

FFA is currently investigating options for affordable, quality MiniRoos branded products and resources to provide to players and clubs a-like. Whilst it is not likely to occur in time for the 2014 winter season it is a high priority project that is well underway.

Manly United FC v MWFA Select

      Manly United FC v MWFA Select
      Wednesday 26th February
      Cromer Park #1 - 7.00pm kick-off

MANLY Warringah Football Association Select XI coach Buster Brooks has named a very strong squad to play Manly United FC in a friendly next month at Cromer Park.

Each club in the 10-strong local competition will be represented in the team, as well as recently relegated Beacon Hill.

Champions Pittwater RSL FC have five representatives, with Wakehurst offering three players and runners-up Brookvale two.

Added spice to the clash is the fact that plenty of Brooks' players have previously turned out for Manly United FC either as juniors or the first team. Brooks will get the squad together twice in the lead up to the tussle on February 26, and is looking forward to challenging himself against Manly boss Craig Midgley.

"I have spoken to most of the lads in the squad and they can't wait for the game," he said. "Along with David Wilson we have assembled what I think is a very competitive team with depth in all positions. Even though it is a friendly I am sure both teams will go out with a point to prove."

Jeremy Toivonen, general manager of the Manly Warringah Football Association and Manly United FC, is a fan of the friendly. "The MWFA is the breeding ground of footballing talent for Manly United and this game will be a tremendous "kick-off" to the upcoming season," he said. "We encourage all supporters to come along and enjoy the game."

The MWFA Select team is:
AVALON – MATT CRAW
BEACON HILL – TIM BORMAN
BROOKVALE – ROCCO PAPALIA, SEAN BOWDEN
CC STRIKERS – JESSIE GOUGH
MANLY VALE – SAM WALLINGS
MOSMAN – STEVE BLACKMORE
NARRABEEN – PASCAL JULLIARD
PITTWATER – STEF TEGHINI, CHARLIE FYFE, CAMERON WHITE, JOSH YATES, MATT PHILIPS
ST. AUGUSTINES – JORDY EDWARDS
SEAFORTH – ANDY SATE
WAKEHURST – DAVE BURNAGE, BEN SMITH, NICK FISHER
