Seaforth Ladies 12/3 Stingers V Brookvale
At Seaforth Oval July 1 2007
Result: Seaforth Stingers 0 Brookvale 6
Top-of-the-table Brookvale made the trip to a very chilly Seaforth Oval and turned on a terrific display of attacking football to win this encounter very comfortably. There was no lack of endeavour on the part of the Stingers: they were simply outplayed by a very good side that was able to exploit generous gaps that appeared in the Seaforth defence on a regular basis.
Perhaps our young ladies were a little rusty after all the rain and all the missed games because we coughed up the first goal in the first couple of minutes. But then the Stingers knuckled down well, and we went to the break only 2-nil down.
The second half was a different story. Brookvale's fast and skilful forward line mounted raid after raid on the Stingers who were simply overwhelmed at the back. Seaforth tried hard but once the gaps appeared, Brookie had the players to capitalise and four additional goals was the result.
Just as Brookvale managed to turn on the skills as the game progressed, Seaforth seemed to lose the basics. Possession was shared pretty evenly, but the little touches from the Stingers often went astray: through balls would go just too far, and the little passes failed to find the mark.
Standing up in defence was Claire. Coach Shannon moved her forward into midfield from the back, and says she turned in her finest performance in a Seaforth shirt, good enough to win the inaugural "Stinger of the Match". And full marks to Belle and Emily D. who pulled on the goalie gloves for the first time, and managed to make many fine saves. Shannon's also confident our young ladies can bounce back from this defeat, regroup, and make it into the finals and be very competitive when we're there. Chins up, ladies! We're very proud of you.

Seaforth U6 Bandits vs Brookvale Tigers
Saturday June 23rd - Seaforth
Result: Bandits 4 Tigers 0
On a freezing Saturday morning the teams turned up the heat right from the start.
Isaac and Lucas didn't waste too much time and were heading straight towards the Tigers goal with a few close calls. Tobias our goalie in the first half of the game saved really well against the Tigers' attempts to score.
James W. making a break towards the circle and Isaac lightning fast on the ball took it straight up to score our first goal.
Our players were positioned well with lots of near misses. JR with a wonderful pass to Isaac and he scored again to make it 2:0.
Much appreciated oranges at halftime must have given our players another boost. Millie was an excellent goalkeeper after the break. The boys and girls of the Brookvale Tigers putting up the pressure now which ended up in the biggest "leg-tangle" with every player from both sides involved.
A brilliant throw in by Georgie and James Wader had no problems scoring our third goal. After that long break from the soccer the Bandits were still hungry for more. Ryan took matters in his own "leg" and scored almost with the final whistle our last goal.
Overall it was a fast paced and determined game on both sides. Congratulations to everyone and keep up the great teamwork.

Seaforth U6 Echindna's V Mosman Frilled Neck Lizards
Result: Echidna's 2 Lizards 0
Wow what a great game. There were no rusty/cold legs this week, the Echidna's were on fire. They played a fantastic game of team soccer with all of them starring in their own way.
Bailey and Allan were our goalies and saved everything that came their way. Our girls, Mya, Ruby and Olivia were star attackers with both Ruby and Mya almost scoring. Josh was awesome in defence, clearing everything that came near that halfway line.
Special mention goes to Allan and his little chip OVER the opposition team into the goal third. Sadly the ball teetered on the edge of the net and didn't make it across the line.
Ruby was our star player on the day and received our player of the week trophy.
WELL DONE TEAM.

Seaforth U6 Panthers V BTH Raiders Barracudas
As the rain finally relented and the sun appeared, the Panthers ran onto the field this Saturday looking as if they had just awoken from a long hibernation. Pasty skin, unaccustomed eyes blinking in the sunlight and weeks of pent-up energy - they were like a tightly coiled spring ready to go off. Their appropriately named opponents this week, the Barracudas, may have been more at home in wet conditions because within seconds of the game commencing they looked like fish out of water.
The Panthers soon made their intentions clear - they were hungry for another win and this week seafood was on the menu. Torben had a great early chance straight from the kick off, which was well saved by the Barracudas' goalie. Then with only two minutes on the clock Gabriel found some space and ran from the half way line, dribbling (and salivating) as he went. One could almost hear him chanting "fish and chips for dinner" as he slotted the ball past the goalie and into the back of the net. A net which was to see more action than Rex Hunt's pucker. Torben followed up with another good run and Lloyd and Wiley all displayed strong kicking. In the fifth minute Lily scored with an unplayable ball, rising into the top right hand corner of the net. Minutes later, with the Panthers bearing down on him, the opposition goalie cleared a well struck ball using his face, making him more resemble a stunned mullet than a Barracuda.
William, Harry and Daniel all defended strongly, providing great momentum to the Panthers' midfield. William also showed great skills in trapping the ball. In an ingenious tactic, designed no doubt to mesmerise their opposition, Lily and Gabriel had a fine forward tussle - with each other. On one occasion Lily had the ball in attack, Gabriel took it off her and they kept challenging each other for the ball until eventually Lily got within striking distance and missed the goal with a good chance. The barrage continued with Harry just missing, in what would have been his maiden goal, Torben having another shot saved and Lily scoring her second for the day minutes before half time. Just before the whistle the opposition attacked with Conor saving their first attempt. The Barracudas then scaled one back with seconds to go, holding the ball up and then sneaking it passed Conor in goal.
3 - 1 to the Panthers at half time.
The pattern continued with the Panthers dominating their fishy opponents in the second half. Within one minute of the half Torben got his name on the scoresheet with an excellent goal into the top right corner. Harry, in goal, pulled off an inventive save, depriving the Barracudas by sitting on the ball. Gabriel came back for seconds with another salivating solo run down the sideline which he finished off with a kick that ran into the net in slow motion. The Panthers then showed good passing skills, particularly some fine exchanges between Daniel, William and Lloyd. The Barracudas bewilderment continued in the second half as they almost scored an own goal and one of their mid field players held back the Panthers by jumping on the ball with his hands (the hand of cod?). Lily scored her third for the day in the tenth minute, breaking free of Gabriel, and shooting through a shoal of Barracudas and into the goal. Other highlights of the half included solid defensive play from Lloyd and Wiley, a great Panther-like pouncing save in gaol by Harry and a thunder-bolt kick by Torben which ricocheted off the post. The Panthers tactics continued to mesmerise, when Torben, Gabriel and Lily challenged each other for the ball and all fell down as a result. So hypnotised were the Barracudas that, like salmon swimming upstream into the open jaws of their predators, they commenced attacking in the wrong direction and scored an own goal in the process.
7 - 1 to the Panthers at full time.
Congratulations Panthers on another fine win.

Seaforth U7 Crows v Seaforth Panthers
This was shaping up as the grudge match of the season - a local derby with the Crows playing in their away strip "the red devils".
It was a tough match with both teams fighting bravely for the ball in midfield. George (tractor ted) Campbell playing in the last match before transferring to the Winchester Warriors in the English Premier Junior School league showed a clear pair of heals as he split the defence found himself in the clear, shoots on goal JUST WIDE. Crows pressure however was converted into points during the first half with goals to William Potter and Callum Hulme whilst Finlay Stone kept a clean sheet in goal for the Crows.
Defence was the key in the second half as a number of Panthers breakouts were nullified through good work of Lily Harvey & Jacob Smith in both midfield and defence whilst Alexander Moore bravely kept goals under enormous pressure.
At the other end Crows attack was rewarded with second half goals to Callum Hulme (2) and Zac Harvey, final score Crows 5 - 0, with Callum Hulme a hat trick.
Thanks to the referee and special thanks to super coach Gary Giles.
Trophy awarded to: Zac Harvey
Crow mascot awarded to: Callum Hulme
Muddiest player of the week awarded to: Alexander Moore

Seaforth U8 Dragons V Mosman Bilbies
at Seaforth Oval.
The weather was great and the team hungry for another game.
There was some excellent team work during the game as the Dragons continued to show their form by passing the ball wherever possible.
One of the highlights of the game was a brilliant header by Hugo straight into the Goal. Hugo has been exhibiting some excellent form in recent times with his skills in out maneuvering the opposition with his fancy footwork.
Goals were scored by Hugo (5) Liam (3) Mitchell (2) and Carl (1). The Bilbies were fine opponents and were always a threat to the Dragons despite the score.
Marc was a great referee as he kept the game on the move at all times. The Parents seemed well in control of themselves and refrained from too much verbal abuse of the Ref.
Liam was a great choice for Man-of-the-Match due to his continuous effort at all matches so far.
We are all looking forward to the next game between our Seaforth Dragons and the Avalon Dragons.

Seaforth U8 Leopards vs Beacon Hill Coyote's
The match began strongly with Emerson, Keiran and Max all pushing forward.
Max set Keiran up for a strike at goal and was unlucky not to score. Bailey did some great tackling and defending and was instrumental in keeping the ball out of goal. Throughout the first half Jack showed confidence and determination with some brave tackling.
Jaydon also defended well however the slippery conditions saw Beacon Hill score the first goal. Nicholas dived for the ball but it sailed through his hands at lightning speed. In retaliation Max back healed the ball to Keiran and evened the score to 1 all just before half time.
During the second half Beacon Hill scored two more goals despite a valiant effort by our little guys. Jack was unlucky not to score from a corner. Keiran did an incredible header that could have been a goal with more back up and Emerson made several strong runs taking the ball to goal from one end of the field to the other.
Max played an outstanding thinking game, trying to create opportunities to score but our guys bunched up too much and opportunities were missed. The Leopards lost 3-1 and were gracious in defeat.

Seaforth Ladies 12/3 Stingers V Beacon Hill
Result: STINGERS 2 BEACON HILL 3
At Seaforth Oval, Sunday 24 June 2007
The Stingers were given a football lesson today by a team that attacked from the first whistle. The final score-line was flattering in the extreme to the Stingers, who could've lost by 7 or 8. Wave after wave of Beacon Hill attacks foundered on the rocks in our defence, but when they did navigate through the black and white wall, they were deadly in front of goal.
We knew we were in for a long afternoon when we were 1-nil down inside 60 seconds. A defensive lapse gave the speedy visitors all the opportunity they needed, and Georgia had no chance in the goal. She pulled off a wonderful reflex save moments later, but Seaforth was under siege. Shades of the 1966 World Cup on the quarter hour (according to one of our dads) as a fierce Beacon Hill shot hit the underside of the crossbar and cannoned straight down; somehow, it stayed out.
Scrambling defence was the only thing keeping us in the game: our attack wasn't firing and there was little cohesion between our hard-working backline and our forwards. But the glorious uncertainty of football was there for all to see late in the half, when we equalised against the run of play. A Beacon Hill goal kick only trickled to the edge of the box, and Claudia was able to take the ball in and score from close range.
Perhaps we thought we could coast to the half-time whistle, but the visitors grabbed their second with only seconds left. Once again, Georgia could do nothing against a quality finish.
Into the second half, and it was déjà vu as Beacon Hill had the ball in the back of our net inside 60 seconds. Luckily for the Stingers, the referee ruled the striker off-side, but the respite didn't last long: 3-1 moments later, after a wonderful solo effort and finish gave Bec no hope at all.
We were hanging on, and that persistence was rewarded 10 minutes from time. Once again, it came from a soft goal kick from Beacon Hill: Xennie latched onto the ball on the edge of the box before angling the ball into the net, wide of the keeper.
3-2, and a share of the points wasn't out of the question, but we were quickly out of time.
The visitors definitely deserved to win today. They had two quality ladies up front who kept us under the pump all day, but our defensive effort was fantastic. Clare, Cheyenne, Imogen, Gia, Belle, Bec and Lauren were wonderful at the back and in the midfield, and our two tireless Emilys ranged back and forth. Georgia added spark in the forward line in the second half, and Claudie and Xennie didn't stop trying. But credit to our visitors: we were well beaten today by a better team, and that's football.

Seaforth Ladies 14/1 V Wakehurst
O.K. We’ve had enough of the weather.
This is the land of sun, sea and splendour - well that's what the brochure said.
It's fantastic that the dam is 50% full, but let's get back to reality - the Seaforth L14/1's are playing again.
It's been 3 weeks since the girls were 'strutting their stuff' and this time we were playing against the second placed team in the competition - Wakehurst.
Were the girls going to forget all the routines learnt in practice that seem so long ago, or were we in for a performance that we know they are capable of ?
Wakehurst put Seaforth under early pressure, but with a resilient back four, four controlling midfield and a suberbly confident goalkeeper (love the fluffy slippers) the girls were easily holding Wakehurst to few chances.
Kellie and Lucy in attack were continuing to cause problems for the Wakehurst defence and with a little bit of luck Seaforth could easily have taken the lead.
It was difficult to see where the deadlock was going to be broken, but with 15 seconds remaining in the first half, great attacking work by Sarah (she makes Roy Keane look like a wimp) and Lisa, the ball came tantalizingly close to Kellie but for a Wakehurst defender to turn the ball into the net for an own goal.
Half time Seaforth 1 - 0.
As expected Wakehurst came out in the second half trying hard to get back into the game with that elusive equalizing goal.
The game continued at a furious pace and with 15 minutes left, a superb through ball from the opposition midfield completely caught our defence flat footed and Wakehurst had deservedly found their equalizer. All square 1 - 1.
A draw was looking a fair result, when following a Wakehurst attack one of their forwards, standing a good 2 metres in front of our defenders found the ball at her feet and calmly slotted the ball home.
No problem - clearly offside, but unfortunately the referee, who up until now was having a superb game must have been dreaming of his bacon sandwich and allowed this 'goal' to stand - even the Wakehurst coaching staff were dumbfounded. Wakehurst 2 - 1.
This was an unfortunate way to end a game in which our Seaforth girls played exceptionally well. Further performances of this calibre surely mean a great future for the girls.
The performance and behaviour of the Seaforth girls, their coach and manager along with the Wakehurst players was exemplary, it is unfortunate this cannot be said for the opposition coach.
Once again ladies, congratulations on a wonderful performance - you were a joy to watch.

Seaforth U6 Panthers v Wakehurst Seals
The undefeated Panthers descended on this week's game like an ominous, unstoppable, storm cloud. Had their unsuspecting opponents, the Wakehurst Seals, any inkling of the trouble brewing at Tania Park that morning they would have boarded-up the car windows and tied their parents down to the nearest heavy object. The Panthers played this game like a gale, and there was nothing any of us could do but hold on for dear life.
As referee this week I had prepared by familiarising myself with the sub-junior soccer rules, stretching my aging limbs and polishing my best whistle. But as old meteorologists like to say - "You can prepare for the climate; but the weather is what you get". And so, as I blew my pristine whistle to start the game my preparation amounted to nothing as the whirlwind commenced. Within seconds I felt like Dorothy in the middle of a Kansas twister, with a blur of 5 year olds spiralling around me. Soon a football, travelling as fast as a thunderbolt, came straight for my head. Had I not taken evasive action, I would have woken up in Munchkin land.
In the first few minutes of the game Gabriel shot through the pack like a lightning strike with an early assault on goal, which was well saved by the Seals' diminutive goalie. The little fellow was kept busy with great shots on goal by William, Wiley and Conor. Then the dribble became a drizzle and the drizzle became a downpour as cyclone Lily struck. She swirled, she whirled and she left a path of destruction in her wake as she scored four goals in the half. The waves of attack from the Panthers were relentless. The Seals' goalie must have felt like a tin man in a thunderstorm, but he defended his goal manfully (as manfully as you can when you are 3 feet tall in a 5˝ foot high goal mouth). Lily had three more shots on goal that were saved and two more which narrowly missed. The barometer rose even further as Lloyd, Daniel and Harry kept play breezy in the midfield. Torben and Conor defended like tornados, blowing away all of the Seals' attacking opportunities.
4 - 0 to the Panthers at half time.
The half time break was the eye of the storm for the Seals, because the Panthers played the second half with equal gusto. Conor and Wiley played particularly forcefully. Having his best game to date, William kicked and chased strongly. He powered through the opposition like hailstones through a Hyundai. Harry and Daniel kept play in the Seals' half, turning them around at every opportunity. Cyclone Lily then struck again to score her fifth goal. A number of Panther kicks in the half, particularly a couple of beauties from Torben, were kicked with such force that the ball almost ended up in the harbour. Late in the game Gabriel, running like the wind down the full length of the pitch, narrowly missed the goal with a great solo attempt. Lloyd, playing in the Panthers' goal for the first time, cut such an imposing figure that when the Seals finally got the ball they chose instead to kick as far away from him as possible, scoring an own goal in the process.
Final score 6 - 0 to the Panthers.
Congratulations Panthers and well played Seals.

Seaforth U6 Cobras V Beacon Hill Pumas
The Cobras had their best game for the year on Saturday with a good win over the Beacon Hill Pumas.
The final score was 8 nil, with 4 goals scored in each half.
We had 6 goalscorers, Lachlan, Henry, Liam, Ned, Thomas and Angus which highlighted what a great team effort it was.
Man of the match was a tough one to decide because it was such a great team performance, but Henry's goal and general good work on the ball saw him taking the trophy home this week.

Seaforth U6 Echinda's V CC Strikers
Result: Echidna's defeated 6 to 2.
Tough competition this week but the team played very well and spoiled lots of certain chances. We had the full compliment of 8 players so we had lots of fresh legs on the field.
Allan our star striker kicked the two goals and did really well after being cobbled in the first half.
Josh and Mya were great as the goalie's, Josh has learnt that he can actually stop the ball WITH HIS HANDS - and Mya did a great job under pressure.
Gregor was the man of the match. CONGRATULATIONS

Seaforth U7 Possums V Mosman
It is Friday afternoon and a hush settles over the school ground of St Cecilia's in Balgowlah, while 180 pairs of eyes looked over at the small huddle of children. A group of children known as, The Possums. The Possums are made up by 10 athletic, enthusiastic strategic and passionate soccer players - Pat, Josh, Jack, Ciara, Imogen, Ceili, Zoe, Sophie, Chloe and their secret weapon Bella. The Possums had been meeting daily in the corner of the playground, unbeknown to Coach Russell or Manager Green. These tactical meetings are to establish a clear game plan for the match of the season The Possums v Mosman. By Friday lunchtime, each athlete knew their role and knew that Mosman were in trouble. Imogen is off to Bris-vegas and was leaving the task of winning to her fellow Possums. In preparation for the game, Ciara feigned illness Friday afternoon, even managing to convince Sue Warmsley that she needed Possum Dad Rodney to collect her early from school (allowing her extra practise time for tomorrows game).
Saturday arrives, and as the sun tries to break through the fog, each Possum jumps out of bed with an extra spring in their step. First to arrive at the ground is Ciara, (after a miraculous recovery) she is feeling confident having achieved an extra afternoon of soccer practice. Shortly after, Chloe, Sophie and Jack joined the small huddle at the top of the hill. In an attempt to give Mosman an impression of nonchalance, each Possum enjoys the mandatory roll down the grassy hill.
As both Possum Mums and Possum Dads joins the coffee van queue, the Possum camp is joined by Pat, Josh, Ceili, Zoe and Bella. Fervour pitch is the only way to describe the atmosphere, as each Possum gives a knowing nod to their team mates. Jack continued to jump and skip constantly in an attempt to control his excitement. Dad Simon urged his son to contain this energy for the start of the game. Mini Possums badgered Possum Mum's and Possum Dad's for a ball to imitate their older siblings.
Mosman looks on in fear. Manager Green asks for volunteers for goalie. The Possums stick to their secret plan - Ciara in goals, Bella in defence, the balance "on the ball" Mosman realised that their usual tactics will not work on the world famous Possums. Both teams joined the ground, a sly look passes between The Possums, they directed their energy to the star of Mosman. Immediately, Mosman's star rushes from the ground with a bloody nose. The nose bleed was enough to delay the start but not the inevitable.
The whistle blows, with a huge kick off The Possums are in attack. Possum Pat dribbles the ball down towards to goals, passing to Zoe who immediately reacts to passionate Possum Mum Tania and "goes towards the ball", passing it with skill that can only be compared to Beckham, the ball makes its way down towards the Mosman goalie -
Tactic 1. Zoe has started as they intend to continue. She weaved in and out of the opposition, leaving Mosman in her wake. With skill she is confident in the knowledge that they have planned today's game. Nothing can go wrong. As Mosman's Goalie's knees knock and beads of sweat form on his forehead, he takes a sigh of relief when the ball is called "out" by the ref.
Mosman bring the ball down the line towards Possum goalie Ciara, it is time for
Tactic 2 - Josh slides in front of Mosman, allowing Ceili to bring the ball back into The Possum's possession. Ceili controls the ball as Possum Dad Steve shouts "bring it down Ceili, bring it down". Ceili knows what is next, she has the ability, she has the determination and above all she is a Possum. Ceili looks up to the glowing pride of Possum Dad Steve, her goal is in sight, she is quietly confident. She lifts her eyes from the ball for just a moment, she can hear the sound of Possum Dad Steve's encouragement. She brings her eyes back to the ball, just in time to see the ball go over the line.
Mosman throw in, The Possums give a secret nod to one another. Coach Russell and Manager Green look on confused as a silent knowing look pass through The Possums. It is time.
Tactic 3 was about to begin. As the ball glides towards Mosman goals, Chloe takes her place and steps ups to the challenge. She moves towards the ball with steely determination, she glides like a butterfly and attacks the ball. Mosman don't know what's hit them. As both teams are drawn to the ball like moths to a light, the ball is hidden by legs and boots. Chloe's red boots shine in Mosman's eyes; she stars as she brings the ball out of the crowd. Mosman are about to lose the ball. They have no other option than to attack. In a mass of confusion, Chloe goes down, Mosman take the ball, Chole limps off the ground in what would be a life threatening injury to any other player - but not to a Possum.
Mosman takes the ball to goals, but they are not prepared for
Tactic 4 - Possum Ciara's stopping skills - she stops goal attempt 1, with the unorthodox "stomach stop". Mosman immediately come back with another goal attempt, Possum Ciara throws herself on the ball as she waves to Possum Mum Maria on the sideline. Bella stays close, coaching her protege while preparing for her secret role in today's match. But her role will have to wait - the whistle signals half time. Score Nil/Nil.
A huddle of Possums, Possum Mums, Possum Dads and Mini Possums forms around a container of oranges and Natural Confectionery. Manager Green revels in the moment - enjoying the responsibility imparted on him by Coach Russell in a last Saturday's late night Possum strategy meeting. The Possums indulge Manager Green, and let him believe that he is the strategist of today's game; but in reality The Possums know the truth. It has all been planned in closeted corner of St Cecilia's playground.
The whistle blows, Possum Jack takes the role of Goalie allowing for the implementation of
Tactic 5. Jack turns one ear to Possum Dad Simon as he listens to instructions while attempting to control his excitement. It is all coming together! Their plan is working! Each of them knows what they need to do. They have contained Mosman like no other team has been able to do. The ball comes towards Jack, he glares at Mosman, showing what a infallible Goalie they are up against. Mosman panic. Mosman pass the ball across goal with a lack of direction. Jack is unforgiving; he immediately takes the ball and makes his way to the opposite goal corner to move the ball down the boundary towards The Possum's goals. Possum Jack nods at Possum Pat. Yes. It's time for
Tactic 6.
Possum Pat takes up the challenge, he ducks and weaves, treating the ball as an extension of his body. He moves the ball with the skill of Harry Kewell. Pat passes the ball to Ceili in a pre-planned move. Ceili quickly passes the ball back to Pat and watches Mosman groan in despair. As Pat makes his way down the field he leaves Mosman players in his wake. Mosman gather and surge, just in time to steal the ball in front of Possum goals. Scores remain locked on Nil.
Mosman bring the ball back into attack. Possum Josh implements
Tactic 7. He slides with direction and agility while tackling the ball back from Mosman. Josh has practiced these tackles constantly over the last week. Possum Josh had worn a path in the turf of St Cecila's playground. Possum Mum Annabell smiles with pride, she knows the grass stains and skinned knees have all been worth it. Possum Dad Tom fails to be distracted by Mini Possum Abby, as he shouts encouragement to Josh. But it is as if Mosman has 9 lives, they manage to keep the ball under their control.
The ball is back in play. It all happens so fast, both teams gather around the ball and in what can only be described as mass confusion the ref suggest Possum Pat depart the field for a "rest". Mosman appear to have players all over the ground. The Possums are rattled, they blink and Mosman goal.
Tactic 8 Sophie is a dash of white as her blonde hair and white jersey flash down the field moving the ball with speed of the likes of Pele. She knows the play. All she has to do is put it into action. Sophie's personal cheer squad join forces with Possum Mum Phillipa and Possum Dad Peter to urge her down the field. She zigs, she zags, passes to Possum Zoe who forwards it to a recovered Possum Chloe who brings the ball closer to victory. The ball returns to Possum Sophie who brings the ball safely to the boundary.
Mosman are awarded the throw in. They waste no time. The ball in quickly heading back towards Goalie Possum Jack.
As The Possums attempt to re-gather a controversial kick leaves both teams confused. The ref deems it a second goal. Score line - Mosman 2 Possums Nil. The crowd cannot believe their eyes.
Possum Pat rallies the team. "Its time" is all he says. The team look towards Possum Bella, their secret weapon.
Tactic 9. The Possums control the ball briefly before losing possession to Mosman. As Mosman take the ball, Bella starts badgering the opposition. She confuses the all boy side, Mosman, as she points out both their inadequacies while sprouting the skill of the formidable team known as The Possums. Coach Russell (aka Possum Mum Anne) attempts to bring Possum Bella to the boundary for a private coaching. Possum Bella experiences selective deafness and continues to torment Mosman. Possum Josh and Possum Zoe encourage Possum Bella. "Keep distracting them Bella" The Possums shout as a group. She achieves her objective. Mosman are distracted. Bella steals the ball and makes her way down the field.
Tactic 9 has worked. The secret weapon Possum Bella has the ball.
The joy is short lived. Mosman recaptures the ball and head back down towards Possum Jack. How do they manage it. They make it Mosman 3 Possums Nil.
Mini Possum Abby, Mini Possum Sophie and Mini Possum Georgina watch on subdued. The whistle is blown. The score line does not indicate the dedication and strategic planning that is The Possums. Losing is not in their vocabulary. A small voice is heard to say "The other team just got more goals, but we still won".
"Thirty-five minutes of stress" has passed for the team that is, The Possums. The team that includes Possum Mums, Possum Dads, Possum Grandparents and Mini Possums. All depart back to Balgowlah and Seaforth. Manager Green tries to soften the heartache. The heartache of having to endure another 7 days on the Northern Beaches, before being mesmerised by The Possums again. He describes the week he must tolerate -a week of stress and tension in Bali. But it is all in vain- we must accept our lot and wait out those 7 days.
Monday morning sees a small gathering return to the confines of St Cecilia's playground; to plot and plan in secret. After all, The Possums real secret weapon is that they are the real strategists of the game. They know they "always win".
Until next week
- Signing off, Possum Mum Maria.

Seaforth U7 Crows V Avalon Cobras
The Crows were on top of the game from the start.
A lovely pass from Alex set up the first beautiful shot into the goal from Callum in the first few minutes, 1-0.
The ensuing teamwork was a sight to behold - great attacking and superb defending, with Finlay booting some long goal keeper shots to help the Crows stay ahead.
Alex took a lovely long shot which cruised in the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Just before half time, Jacob risk everything in defence taking a full on shot into the chest and neck, coming off injured just prior to the whistle.
The second half was filled with exciting play, some very near misses at goal, and great goalkeeping from Lily.
Will scored a lovely goal with an on target kick to make it 3-1 within a few minutes. An ensuing scramble around the Crows goal resulted in 3-1.
But a firm push back by the Crows soon after, then a lovely run by Finlay who tucked one in the net to finish the 4-1 victory.
Man of the Match was Will Potter and keeper of the Crow was Lily Harvey.

Seaforth U8 Dragons V Beacon Hill
This was a hard match against a good team but the courageous Dragons pulled it together and won 2-0.
The action started with a good save by Dylan in goal. Plenty of good team work led to our first goal scored by Hugo after some good passing by Callum.
In the second half Carl took possession of the ball and after a great run up the pitch scored our 2nd goal.
Dylan continued his great work by almost scoring a 3rd goal... twice in a few seconds. But unfortunately their goalkeeper found a way to block him - bad luck Dylan.
There was some great team effort by Liam and Mitchell who tried to help get the ball across the line.
A great game again for the mighty Dragoons.
Special mention to Ron (Carolyn!) for providing an excellent range of fruit and raw veggies this morning - they have certainly raised the bar for half time nourishment!
Man of the match had to be - Dylan

Seaforth U8 Leopards v Pittwater Thorny Devils
Mona Vale, sunny afternoon, dry and dusty pitch.
Result: Decisive 4-1 win over the Thorny Devils.
First half saw Bailey, Emerson and Jadon pushing the ball back to William and Jack but the Devils were playing defensive and their goalie was kept busy.
Fending off attack with some solid saves had Nick busy for a short while. A technical bad luck unfortunate series of events had the Devils get a score and the game was 1-0 at half time.
Coach Rob had some words that saw a determined and spirited Leopards return.
Fantastic teamwork and awesome display of skills finally had Kieran flying out of the pack, a solid shot had the scores equalled 1-1. The taste was sweet and a few minutes later Kieran repeated his previous with another fantastic goal that had us in front 2-1.
We never looked back, all players firing didn't give the opposition time to breathe. Still attacking, Max scored a beauty and the crowd went wild. The Devils were desperate, but more so was Jack, the goalie deflected his shot at goal but Jack pursued the ball and kicked again, this time past the goalie and into the net.
Leaping Leopards go to the siren with a much deserved 4-1 win.
Well done to all with a special mention to William, showing speed and attacking, unlucky not to have scored, also to Jack, breaking his drought and scoring his first goal for the team, Kieran for his two magnificent goals fully on the run.
Man of the match, a tough choice but deservedly to Max. Great skills, teamwork, passing and finally whack, into the net. Congratulations Max.

Seaforth U8 Goannas vs BTH Raiders Eagles
The Goannas were primed for a big game at a sunny Condover Reserve on Saturday.
In a tight first half, both teams were very evenly matched with no one able to open the scoring for either team and some great end to end football played by both teams. Riley had a stellar first half in defence and kept repelling the Raiders attacks with some strong clearances. Nick was a safe pair of hands in goal whilst Ruben continued his outstanding year by being everywhere in the middle of the field and making opportunities for the strikers.
Late in the half, the Goannas started to apply some constant pressure on the opposition goal but were unable to convert with the best chance a nice cut back pass from Isaac to a perfectly positioned Jake who just blasted his shot wide under extreme pressure.
The second half opened with Riley taking up the goalie gloves and his form continued to impress including a great bootlace save from one strong run by the Raiders. However despite finishing the first half on top, the Goannas let the Raiders back into the game. The Raiders control of ball led them to score a spectacular goal which was unsaveable given its power and angle.
The boys lifted from that point and George, Nick and Peter started to control the defence and the middle whilst Ruben kept up his relentless work in the middle. The big break came when a quick throw in from half way, which went up the line (as directed by the coach) broke free for Jake and Isaac who had both made good position up front. Isaac dribbled the ball towards goal and unleashed a powerful angled shot which went in off the post to level the scores and reward the team for their good play. It was good reward for effort for the team and yet another classy finish from Isaac who knows how to find the goals.
In an exciting finish to the game, much like the final stages of the first half the Goannas controlled the ball and kept pushing forward. Jake and Ruben were finding space forward of the middle and creating lots of opportunities. Isaac was showing his dribbling skills and had a couple of shots go just wide to keep the crowd on their feet before finally finding the back of the net with yet another well taken powerful shot in the corner to seal the win.
With calls to blow the whistle for the second win of the year, the boys kept pressuring until the end and held out for the final few minutes and may have added one more goal if time had continued.
A great result in a closely contested, evenly matched game. Everyone should be proud of their efforts as the boys listened to the coach and kept their structure and played a steam in a pleasing and well deserved win. Well done everyone.

Seaforth Ladies 12/3 Stingers V Belrose T-H Raiders
Result: Seaforth Stingers 2 Belrose T-H Raiders 3
At Wyatt Avenue, Sunday 3 June
This was definitely a match that got away from the Stingers, who dominated territory and possession. When their chances came, the Raiders made the most of them and earned the points on a lovely morning up at Belrose.
The Stingers opened the scoring early in a cracking move. Imogen made a terrific tackle at the back and passed to Gia. She put a lovely ball through to Claudia, who took the ball into the square at pace and fired in an unstoppable shot.
But not much time for celebration, because it was 1-all only seconds later. Some goal-mouth indecision allowed one of the Raiders forwards to pounce on a loose ball, and she made no mistake.
By now the match had settled into a pattern. The Stingers were dominating across the park, but we couldn't get another goal. The Raiders had one great central defender and a pair of very quick and skilful forwards who kept asking very significant questions. And one of those questions resulted in a goal not long before half time: Bec saved once, Georgia hacked the ball clear as well, but a well-timed strike sent the Raiders to the break 2-1 up.
Into the second spell, and once again the Stingers were lively on the ball. Rebecca was enterprising in the midfield after her stint in goal in the first half, providing plenty of push forward, and the Raiders were camped in their own half. Finally the equaliser came, from a corner: three or four shots were saved before Xenia found the back of the net from close range at the near post.
2-all, and the seconds were ticking away. The Stingers were taking the match to the Raiders, but their speedy forwards were always posing problems. Suddenly, their best player broke clear and gave Lauren no chance with a rocket of a shot. The winning goal wasn't without controversy, as a Stingers played appeared to be shoved in the back, but the infringement must have been missed by the referee.
Our young ladies played well as a team today, and they can consider themselves unlucky not to share the points at least. Clare had her best game in a Seaforth shirt, while Imogen, Belle, Gia, Cheyenne, Georgia and Amber were very creative on the ball. Bec was full of running in the second spell, as were our two non-stop Emily's, while Lauren, Xennie and Claudia made important contributions too. All in all, a very entertaining game that could have gone either way.

Seaforth Ladies U14/1 v CC Strikers
Sun 3rd June 2007
After the poor performance of last week, 'everyone' expected Seaforth to bounce back and continue the excellent performances of previous games.
We were not disappointed, with the girls starting off at a furious pace. Marking was superb, tackling was precise and passing was accurate - surely the first goal was imminent.
Midway through the first half, a delightful first time flick from Georgia found Lucy in the clear and with the predatory skills of 'Drogba', steered the ball into the net to put the girls one up. Seaforth 1 - 0.
The dominant play didn't stop. Another pass from Georgia found Kellie, who reached the ball before the oncoming goalkeeper to calmly slide the ball in for goal number two. Seaforth 2 - 0.
This was the play we know the girls can produce.
Unfortunately, after half time, the girls must have forgotten that there were another 30 minutes left. Strikers were now putting our girls under sustained pressure and looked a very different team from the first half.
Seaforth just couldn't get out of their half and it came as no surprise when Strikers deservedly scored, to reduce our lead. Seaforth 2 - 1.
The Strikers pressure continued and with Seaforth completely losing their shape, things were looking grim. Strikers should have equalized had it not been for a world class, full stretch save from Lucy, low to her right that kept us in the game - was this the turning point?
The game continued with Strikers having most of the play but Seaforth hanging on for a fortunate win.
Congratulations to Sarah who was made captain of the team for all remaining games.
Big thanks to Ashley Dunn, who stepped in to referee this game at the very last moment, (our referee, again, failed to turn up).
And thank you Lucy, for 'that' save. (Zeljko Kalac - eat your heart out).
