Seaforth U6 Falcons vs BHL Comets

The Falcons were itching to have a game this week and they started out strong.

Ben had a few nervous moments in goals with some amazing defence from the team. Your a great goalie Ben. Ned was into the action and keen for a good run. Wow how fast you are this week Ned. While Callum was not going to miss out on the action and played to be a valuable player.

Pat was ever so keen and scored a goal for his efforts. Well done Pat. Billy was on look out and did some of his best defence and also managed to kick a goals Way to go Billy. Javier and Brinn played some great passes and stopped the Comets from getting past them. You are stars Javier and Brinn. Just when we were all getting nervious Tom came from defence and kicked a mighty goal. Wow Tom.

Second half the Falcons were up 3-0 but the Comets really gave them a good run. Plenty of red faces and Callum and Brinn kept finding just a little bit more energy. Ned had plenty of action and has definately been our most improved player. Tom was confident in goals and stopped some big attempts by the Comets.

Pat was looking exhausted again but did plenty of running and almost scored a few more goals. Javier and Billy played great team work and Bill went on and scored. Wow. Ben was not going to be happy until he scored a goal and kicked an amazing goal past the Comets strong goalie.

Final score was 5-0. The Falcons all played so good it was hard to choose the awards.

Our 2 Players of the Match went to Javier and Pat. Well done boys. For an awesome game Ben took home the Falcons Mascot. You deserved it Ben.

Go the mighty Falcons

Seaforth U6 Bears v Wakehurst Crocodiles

After a disrupted training on Monday, all boys were in good behaviour and ready to play.
The Bears were playing away from home against the coaches old junior club Wakehurst.

The Bears were all over the Crocodiles in the first half and scored 2 great goals by Benny and Jordan. The Bears were unlucky not to score many more.

Sam kept the Crocodiles scoreless in the first half as 'keeper, this was helped by the excellent defence from all the other players including Eddie, Ethan, Cameron, Jayden and Rex.

The 2nd half started and the Crocodiles were starting to have more shots on goal. However Ethan was able to keep them out early with some great saves. All of a sudden we were 4-0 up with another two goals scored by Jordan and Benny, who both played another great attacking game.

The Crocodiles bounced back with two goals. However the Bears kept calm and played a great defensive match in the last 5 minutes. Eddie and Cameron were running all over the park. Sam and Jayden were making some nice touches on ball to keep the Crocodiles away and Rex played his best game of the season and was the player of the match. Well done Rex.

Great win to the Bears. Final Result Bears 4 Crocodiles 2.
Coach very happy, 1 up on his old club.

PS. Ethan helped out the U7 Killer Whales girls team after the game as 'eeper. He was the star of the match saving all goals and helping the girls to a 0-0 Draw. Thanks Ethan.

Seaforth U7 Killer Whales v Manly Vale Dolphins

The scene is set, 8 minutes before kick off, we had 3 players, no shirts, and realised we were on the wrong field.

However we managed to put it together and started with a full squad with Ethan from the U6 Bears helping out as 'keeper.

The game started out fast with our girls defending well. Chloe Irving played a strong first half but had to leave at half time. Chloe Driessen also played a fantastic game and was all over the field. Katie & Meg both backed up in attack and defence and helped restrict the opposition to no goals.

Special mention goes to Kate for saving a great goal at full time with her head. Renee was the player of the match attacking and defending all over the park.

Rosie and Parissa had an excellent game both defending and attacking, coming close to scoring a goal at times and running their little hearts out.

Ethan saved all goals and his effort for the girls was fantastic.

The game was fantastic to watch and the girls played great. The final score was 0-0.
Excellent Result!!

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Wakehurst Lynx

This had the makings of a tougher game; the Hawks were reduced to no reserves and knew they would all have to work hard as a team this week.

There was none of the early sluggishness of previous weeks, as the Hawks launched attack after attack on the Wakehurst goal. We showed great patience and ball control, with Ben, Byron and Jay working well together with neat passing to move the ball forward. Wayne got himself into excellent position a number of times and was unlucky not to score, and Stirling also challenged the goalkeeper in the first half without luck.

Finally Jay opened the scoring with a well-struck shot using his trademark left boot, to give a 1-0 scoreline at half time, which did not reflect the way the Hawks had dominated the possession and opportunities as our 'keeper Jordan didn't get to touch the ball in the half. The team was playing really attractive soccer and we knew if we kept it up the chances would come for us.

In the second half Jordan relished being released from his goalkeeping duties and was heavily involved, showing his ability to protect the ball from defenders while Wayne was rewarded for his persistence when he pounced on a short clearance by the opposition defence and pounded it home. Jay and Stirling showed their skills by using their chests and bodies to keep the ball under control, with Jay laying on a delightful pass to put Wayne into the space for him to score his second goal.

Ben kept things safe as our goalie in the second period, and his clearing kicks were strong and straight. Byron continued his strong match with more clever passes and great positional play in defence and Wayne capped a fantastic half with another goal to complete his hat-trick.

Well done boys, on an entertaining and exciting display of football that even the opposition coach was impressed with!

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Wakehurst Panthers

The Panthers were in for a battle to reverse their form following their thrashing at the hands of the Sharks last week. They needed a master strategist; they needed inspiration; they needed a plan.

Like the cavalry coming to the rescue, Coach Haslam arrived with his secret weapon - a game plan. It was a plan so covered with drawings of arrows, offensive fronts and defensive lines, it appeared as though he was preparing his army of 7 year olds to invade Western Europe. "I have myself full confidence" he said before kick off "that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, we shall prove ourselves once again able to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny. We shall fight on the northern beaches. We shall fight on the soccer grounds. We shall fight in the playing fields and in the streets. We shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender."

With those inspirational words still ringing in their small, but perplexed ears the Panthers ran onto the pitch with their guns blazing. Toben tackled like a tank. Conor, the goalie for the game, kicked like he was firing a bazooka. One of those kicks landed in the front line, and was dispatched by Luke into the back of the net. Gabriel ran rings round his opponents in the midfield and just missed with a number of great scoring attempts. Daniel and William out-manoeuvred the enemy. Harry and Lloyd out-defended them. Lily, marshalling her most potent weaponry, scored 5 times. Only one of the Wakehurst counter-attacks breached the Panthers' defence. When the war was over the Panthers were victorious 6 - 1.

As the team left the ground I looked over my shoulder to see the solitary figure of Coach Haslam marching backward and forwards in the distance. When I turned to leave I heard these words carried on the gentle breeze "If this football club lasts for a thousand years, its men and women will still say 'This was their finest hour'. We may allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing; but let us not forget for a moment the toil and efforts that lie ahead. We must now devote all our strength and resources to the completion of our task. Advance, Panthers! Long live the cause of football!".

Man of the match: Gabriel
Most improved: Lily

Seaforth U8 Possums vs Thorny Devils

The air was tense: it crackled, sparked,
As Possums gathered at Kitchener Park
This was the day - what chance a win?
Or draw? Or loss by less than ten?

The Coach arrived at quarter past,
His stride was long, the crowd aghast.
How cool this man! What quirk of fates
Left him in charge of under eights?

Before too long, he had them running
Relays! Gad! This man is cunning.
The Devils looked on with trepidation
"We've never seen this preparation".

The whistle blew, they were away
The Possums had the early play
Jack wore guards outside his socks
And Ciara wore hat upon her locks.

And then, a shot! Against the run
The score was suddenly zero-one
Defence was vital, Ceili strong
Her kicks were sailing extra long

Imogen was working hard
Striving for that extra yard
Sinead played like girl possessed
With skill this one is amply blessed

Pat was calm in front of net
Big kicks! Great saves! But yet
A breach, just one got through
The score moved on to zero-two

As Chloe kicks them through the air
The Mums cry - "Kick it out of there"
Rod was keen to add support
Alas! His voice had fallen short.

Jack chased everything in sight
Sinead jinked left and then stepped right
Sophie makes a storming run.
"She'll score a goal, one day, that one".

Halftime nears, oranges close
The Devils want another dose
The game is cruel, take it from me
For now the score is zero-three.

The Coach inspires with words so wise
"Avoid the centre, use the sides"
"Use the whole field", he adds, with glee
No wonder the kids look at him oddly

Second half, Zoe in goal
She's engaged in heavy toil
Diving saves, shot after shot
It's proving hard to keep out this lot.

Sophie stops a screaming shot
Face on, something she's done a lot
She sat it out, a little sore
The score moved on to zero-four

Amy proves she's found her feet
And fits right in, this Possum sweet
She fired in a scorching kick
That shaved the post by - oh, a bit.

Imogen chases down the ball
Jack is tripped, and takes a fall
The card, it should be red! We cry,
Another goal, five-nil, we sigh.

Ciara is fighting to the end
Chloe with fearful kicks will send
A message to Devils who have scorned her
Alas! They score one from a corner.

Six goals! The number's hardly fair
Reflection of the game out there
"Now kids", says Coach, "what did you learn"?
"Not to fall over" says Jack, in turn.

"I'm tired", says Coach, and that is that.
"The Possum today will go to Pat".

Seaforth U8 Seals vs BVL Wolves

The game started out strong with Nicholas C in goals. Ben V played his best and showed that he has been focusing which paid off. Great playing of the first half Ben. Liam was into the action very quick with some great passes to his team mates. Another kid who has been listening.

Nick V had a number of attempts at goals and after a big effort scored our first goal. Way to go Ben. Mums all excited and yelling we set the atmosphere for the Seals and Todd scored 2 goals. Ben C was in the backs and played some amazing defence and helped pass the ball to Matt who went onto scoring our 4th goal.

Will also proved that he has been listening and did plenty of defence and passing of the ball. The Wolves were feeling the pressure but managed to slip a big goal pass the Seals.

Second half the Seals let thoses oranges take effect and Will played a great position in goal. What a goaler Will. Ben V still had that eye on the ball and used his voice to the team mates which helped his brother Nick V to score another goal. Wow Nick 3 goals.

Ben C now playing out on the wing went on and scored his first goal. The Mums were still biting their nails with the Wolves goaler in tears and one of the Seals on the side line in tears. Emotions were running high and Nic C scored another 2 goals for the Seals. With smiles being restored with the Seals Ben C went and showed his brother that he can also score 2 goals.

Challenges happening everywhere and Matt also scored his 2nd goal. It was too much for Liam who was trying so hard and played his positions well. Todd had a number of attempts but the goal managed to take target for his 3rd try of the match.

The boys could keep going forever but with the game at the end we presented Ben V with player of the match for being the most improved for the game. Macot went to brother Nick V for a great game with 2 goals under his belt.

Well done boys. Final score 11-2.

Ladies U14/3: Curl Curl 2 Seaforth Superheroes 2
At Curl Curl, Sunday 1 June

The Superheroes made the trip out to the beach, well aware that this Curl Curl team (they have two teams in our competition) was sitting on top of the table. But our young ladies essentially gave the home side a football lesson, and we were very unlucky not to come away with all the points. We failed twice to clear the ball from the box, and Curl Curl scored both times. But apart from those two blemishes, the Seaforth side showed plenty of courage and commitment, right across the park, and the standard of passing and teamwork has never been better.

We started with only 10 players but quickly began to apply all the early pressure. There was a robust athleticism about the Superheroes, who clearly were far from overawed by the challenge at hand. Anna Tweedie, Claudia and Jorja were lively up front, feasting on some wonderful ball supplied from our lively midfielders; and when Curl Curl eventually found their rhythm, Nina and Laura at the back, and Bec, Tasha, Mads, Ella and Anna McNee were more than equal to whatever challenges came their way. Charli also had her kicking boots on, firing long-range goal kicks downfield whenever required.

Into the second spell, and still nil-all, but Curl Curl came out with renewed determination. That paid early dividends: we failed to clear a loose ball and Charli had no hope of stopping a left-foot shot out of the pack from close range. 1-nil, and you could sense Curl Curl was lifting. But Anna Tweedie had other ideas. She burst down the left hand touch and fired in a wonderful inch-perfect cross for Claudie, who turned and hit a right-footer that flew over the goalie's head.

By now, the match was flowing from end to end but Seaforth still seemed to have the upper hand. Curl Curl had other ideas, and scored again: same dithering in the box and the same result. 2-1, and only minutes left when Tash got hold of the ball about 25 metres out on the right side of the pitch. She sent a lovely pass into the box and found Claudia, who hit it first-time into the air. Everyone hesitated, the ball came down spinning furiously, and it bounced over the goalie's head and into the net. Shane Warne would have been proud!

2-all, and the ref blew full time only moments later. At the very least, the Superheroes deserved to share the points, and could quite easily have taken them all today. We're starting to gel in key areas, and the standard of football is getting better by the week. Terrific effort, ladies.

Seaforth U6 Bears v BTH Magpies

Another win on the weekend for the Seaforth Bears.

The game starting off slow, however it did not take long for the boys to start scoring their usual goals.

Great attacking performances and goal scoring from Jordan & Benny, who always play well together and play all over the opposition. Eddie was all over the park and no one could get through him, also scoring goals.

Ethan had a excellent goalie performance in the first half and finished off the 2nd half with a great goal. A great defensive effort from Jayden including a tremendous goal save.

Sam and Rex had solid performances and helped the team score goals and keep the other team in their own half. Cameron played all over the park and did not stop trying. His great performance secured him the Player of the Match.

Final score 7-1 win to the Bears.

The Bears are a very exciting team to watch and put in skilful and dominating performance every time we play. All the boys are playing well together as a team and are enjoying themselves, winning six out of six games played.

Seaforth U6 Falcons vs Mos Blue Bottles

The Falcons were all keen for a run and Callum and Billy started out strong, with Angus, Ned and Tom playing some great defence. The Blue Bottles tried to get a goal past Brinn however Brinn was too good.

The Falcons were determined to keep the ball in their half and Ben, Pat and Javier played great team work with passing the ball. Pat made a number of attempts to score a goal but just could not get it past the Blue Bottles.

Tom was strong in defence and managed to kick a mighty big goal. Well done Tom. The Falcons were all fired up and the Falcons played some great moves and passed the ball to Billy who scored our second goal. Wow.

At second half Bill went into goals and the Blue Bottles had a bit more control of the ball and made a number of attempts to score. Billy saved all attempts with one very big catch. Amazing catch Billy.

Callum, Pat and Javier ran their hearts out and it was all too much for Pat who decided he needed to have a quick lie on the field. Brinn took on some mighty big tackles and was a bit worse for wear but it was not long before he was out there again.

Ned was endless energy and when we were bitting our nails Angus took control and stopped the Blue Bottles from getting past. Tom was keen to have another shot at goals but was feeling the pressure and Javier had had enough running. Ben was forever finding a bit more energy to keep the running and the Falcons finished the game 2-0.

Player of the Match went to Callum and Billy. Great game boys.
Mascot went to Pat for amazing effort. Well done Pat.

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Beacon Hill Hawks

Eddie showed he had been paying attention to the pre-game chat about our recent run of slow starts, opening the scoring with a cracking well-struck goal. Jay was another who started the game strongly, challenging the 'keeper with one shot, rattling the goalposts with another, then slotting one home to score. Beacon Hill then hit back against the run of play, and running up the slope, thanks to a good individual effort but Stirling finished the scoring for the half by dribbling around the goalkeeper, before his accurate shot hit the back of the net.

In the second half we had to work hard, running up a significant slope. Ben made two excellent long, dribbling runs and was unlucky not to score thanks to some scrambling Beacon Hill defence. Jay and Stirling both showed excellent skills, controlling the ball with their chests and feet, before moving it forward and Ben and Eddie also combining for some great passing.

Byron was thinking the whole match, always aware of the opposition players and choosing excellent defensive positions from throw-ins and goal kicks. There were some heavy tackles from both sides, with Wayne especially involved in a running battle with the opposition's best player throughout the match. Michael showed he is quickly establishing himself as a bit of an expert in the goals, with some good saves and thinking hard about where he is kicking the ball for the best result.

We look forward to having Jordan fit and well for our match next week.

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Belrose Terrey Hills Sharks

The Panther's ranks were ravaged this week with Torben and Harry both off sick. In stark contrast, the Sharks arrived in full force, looking flushed with good health.

Within seconds of the opening whistle, the Shark's physical number 6 blazed his way through the Panthers' pack, leaving Conor and Lily floored in his wake, and he struck the opening goal. He was back on the scoreboard in the second minute and again in the sixth. The Sharks soon scored their fourth. Just before half time Daniel, our goalie for the game, bravely stood his ground and, keeping his face between the ball and the net, took one on the chin for the team. Way to go Daniel!

"Okay" said Coach Haslam at half time, "I want to see a goal early in the second half". Taking that advice a little too literally, just seconds into the half, the Panthers stood back smiling and witnessed the Sharks score their fifth, shortly followed by their seventh and eighth. Luke delivered some pride to the game with a fine goal late in the game. Unfortunately it was not so late that the Sharks didn't have enough time to score another two goals. Final score 10 - 1 to the Sharks.

I was worried that our young players would not be able handle such a comprehensive shellacking. Would they crumble? Would they cry? Would there be a throwing of teddies and a spitting of dummies? There was only one thing to do. I did it. I conducted some post-match interviews.

"How do you feel about failing?" I asked. "Failing? We didn't fail," Lily said philosophically. "There is no failure except in no longer trying." "Yeah, you go girl" added Conor, "As Al Gore said recently, no matter how hard the loss, defeat might serve as well as victory to shake the soul and let the glory out."

"But you guys worked so hard out there. Aren't you disappointed not to have come away with a victory?". "Au contraire," said Gabriel. "The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success."

"You hit the nail on the head there Gabby," said William. "Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly."

"Do you think you'll be able to recover next week?" I pressed. "Greatness comes not when things always go well." said Lloyd "True greatness comes when you're really tested, when you take some knocks. Because only if you've been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain." "Quite right" added Luke "After all, success is but an illusion and failure a mere finger post on the path to true enlightenment." "Right on brother" added Daniel. "When the last 30 minutes are considered in the context of the time continuum we didn't really lose at all; we just ran out of time."

Impressed by the team's maturity and mental fortitude I turned to congratulate Coach Haslam on instilling such positivism on his young charges. "Please, not now" he said in a faltering voice, his bottom lip quivering, "I just need some time by myself."

Player of the match: Daniel
Most improved: Luke

Seaforth U8 Seals vs WAK Ravens

The Seals were all keen for some serious soccer this week and Ben C and Matt started out strong. Ben C had a number of attempts to score but just could not get in in.

The Ravens seemed a strong team and Liam was nervious up in goals but did a magic job. Ben V was a lot more on the ball this week and played some great defence. Nick V covered the field and focused on the skills that they have learnt. Well done Nick.

Nic C did some big kicks and also attempted to score but the goals just weren't happening. Will and Todd played their positions and the Raven just could not get past these guys. Great soccer boys.

Second half the Seals thought they would never score a goal and the Ravens seemed to be a great match, however Nic C was not happy until he scored. Wow great goal.

Nick V was ready to have an attempt and almost got one in but the Ravens were strong. Liam was keen for a run and played great team work with Todd and Matt in the goals. Matt played very well under pressure. Will was feeling the pressure but would not let the Ravens past.

Ben C was once more driven to the goals and scored an amazing 2nd goal for the Seals. The game seemed to never end and Ben V has the taste for some more action and played one of his best games. Good effort Ben V. Final score was 2-0.

Players of the Match went to Liam and Nick V. Well done.
Mascot went to Ben C for his consist effort.
Thanks for John for refereeing.(Matts Dad)

Seaforth Ladies U14/3 Superheroes 3 Pittwater 0
At Seaforth, Sunday 25 May

There was plenty to like about this emphatic victory for the Superheroes. The score could easily have been doubled, but we fired wide several times and on other occasions the Pittwater goalie was able to secure the ball just before the final touch from a Seaforth attacker. All in all, a confidence-building display.

It didn't look that flash at half time, however. We went to the break locked nil-all, despite the Superheroes dominating possession and position. Anna Tweedie set the standard early, with a tremendous left foot shot into the box after beating the fullback. A free kick from Bec went close, and Nina's left footer sailed over the bar. We then managed a number of clean breaks, but we either shot wide or the keeper was able to grab the ball just in front of our strikers. We did not have things entirely our way: Pittwater mounted a number of promising attacks, but they were thwarted by our busy defensive line. Amanda, Ella, Laura, captain Anna McNee and Bec combined to shut down a couple of promising Pittwater attacks, while Madolyn, Charli and Tasha (plus Anna Rose in the second spell) patrolled the midfield with distinction.

Nil all at half time, but our canny coach pulled a second-spell master-stroke that paid immediate dividends. He put Madolyn in the front line and she scored a cracker in the first couple of minutes. She broke clear of the defence and a rocket of a shot gave the goalie no chance at all. It was 2-nil five minutes later, when Claudia converted a lovely ball out of midfield, and Anna McNee completed the scoring late in the game with her first goal of the season, a nice reward after a top game.

There were no stand-out stars today, just a good solid performance from a team that's getting better every week. The passing was generally very good; the forward line asked plenty of questions, and the midfield and backline was in good shape throughout. Thanks too to Sarah for coming down to support her team-mates, despite her injured back.

Seaforth U6 Falcons vs Zebra's

The Seals were all fired up for some serious Soccer and they played like pro's.

There was no stopping Ben this week and he ran his little heart out. Ned played some great defence with Angus and stopped the Zebra's from getting past them. Pat was into the action with Brinn and Callum. Callum came off saying his heart was broken. Great effort boys.

Tom was not short of the action and covered a lot of the field with running full lengths to stop the Zebra's. Javier did an awesome job in goals as the Zebra's were determined to score. Great job Javier. At half time the Zebra's had scored 2 goals against us however were were all so keen.

Second half the Falcons were ready again to take on the Zebra's. Javier was ready to show everyone what he can do and had a few attempts of goals. Ben was running on overload and ready to score a goals... he did... wow and he ran from his own half. Amazing effort Ben. We are so proud.

Callums and Brinns faces were getting redder but they passed the ball and played some great soccer. Pat was on guard in goals and stopped some very hard balls. Good effort Pat. Angus came out of nowhere and and stopped the Zebra's from getting past him.

Tom was strong in defence with plenty of running, and showed to be a valuable team member. Ned was into the action and it was almost too much for us parents. The Zebra's managed to get another 2 goals past us but the Falcons contined to fight with their heads high.

What a fantastic game Falcons. You are all learning so much and playing some great soccer. Final score 1-4.

Players of the Match went to Ben and Tom. Great effort guys.
Mascot went to Ned for most improved.
Billy was away sick and we missed him. Hope you feel better soon Bill.

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs CCS Vidmars

The Hawks are thriving under the pressure of tough matches every week. This was another exciting game with the Hawks coming from behind with some great teamwork.

After an early opposition goal, the Hawks showed us their team skills when an accurate throw-in from Wayne was well controlled by Jay who fed it to Byron in space to score. Byron also scored our second when he ignored a heavy tackle in the goal square to get his boot on a well directed cross and send it into the net. Stirling kept us in the match with an outstanding diving save to his right to turn the ball around the post with his vision blocked by a crowded goalmouth.

The game was full of intense tackling from both sides that saw Jordan, Ben and Eddie in their element with each of the boys throwing themselves into some heavy clashes.

The second half started in a similar way to the first, with the Vidmars scoring early then our goalie, now Michael, making some crucial diving saves, not hesitating to bravely throw himself at the attacking opposition. Wayne was unlucky not to score on two occasions, one that Stirling followed up to score, and the second that lead to Jay finishing the match with a well-deserved goal.

This was a good tough match, with a lot of end-to-end running, and a fitting result to the Hawks who battled right to the finish.

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Avalon Taipans

The Panthers took a stroll through the deep dark wood. They saw a snake and the snake looked good.

"Taipans, how lovely" Daniel said
"You'll taste good on a slice of bread."
"You'’re right," added Luke "I know what you mean.
My favourite snack is serpent ice-cream."

"Let's play first," said Lily "They look fit and strong.
But I'll score just the same. You just see if I'm wrong."
So she struck the ball hard, with all of her might,
And scored a great goal, just to prove herself right.

Then William said "I do not mean to mumble.
I'm still eating my breakfast of Taipan crumble."
"Make sure," added Lloyd "to leave room in your belly
For our snack at half-time, eels pickled in jelly."

"Terribly sorry" Torben said with a terrible roar.
"You'll have to hold on, 'cause it's my turn to score".
He bamboozled the keeper, and kicked it over his head.
It shot into the net and he scored, like he'd said.

The Taipans bit back, and although they scored two,
Harry defended so well that was the best they could do.
Conor stepped up "You snakes can't beat me."
He dribbled and kicked, and scored goal number three.

Gabriel then sprinted so fast through the pack,
That all we could see of him was his back.
And he said as he ran, "For lunch I will make
My favourite food, which is scrambled snake."

"Scrambled snake!" said the Taipans "Oh help. Oh no.
Goodbye Panthers. It's time to go."

All was then quiet in the deep dark wood.
The Panthers won the game and the game was good.

Seaforth U7 Killer Whales vs Seaforth White Tigers

Tremendous and skilful performance by the Seaforth Killer Whales who are improving every week. It was a great game played by the girls who not only in defence but they put in a solid attacking game as well.

Jamie was once again all over the park, with no one able to get past her even while she was lying on her back her legs were still attacking the opposition. Parissa defended well and was able to run freely without the restriction of her cast putting in a solid performance.

Rosie has a excellent game as well in defence and attack, showing off her skilful backwards kicking as well. Chloe Driessen and Meg also had fun, and have shown how much they have improved by playing all over the field. Honourable mention to Renee who is playing very well in her attacking game.

Player of the match this week went to Chloe Irving who has improved a lot since the first game and did not stop trying the whole game.

Adelaide Irving assisted in goals this week stopping some great attempts at goals. A great goal was scored at the end by Rosie, that finished off a fun and exciting game.

Keep up the good work girls you're looking terrific every week.

Seaforth U8 Seals vs BVL Dolphins

The Seals started out strong with the wind against them, but with Todd in goals we were all confident.

The Dolphins were a good match for us and the Seals were knocked of their rock when the Dolphins scored the first 2 goals.

Nick V took them on and ended up on the ground injured. Good effort Nick. Will played some great defence with Ben C keen for some action. Ben V was keen too stay on the field and show the Dolphins what he is made off. Liam was getting nervious but played a great first half. Matt and Nic C were valuable teams members with passing the ball and defending our goalie. It was all too much for coach Alan who found his voice and blurred out the yelling from the Mums. Go easy.

Second half we had Will in goals and he was a solid as a rock. Ben C attempted to get a few goals but the Dolphins were too tough. The Seals were feeling the pressure and Nic and Matt were so determined however the Dolphins got another goal in. Ben V and Liam were doing a lot of communicating however the Seals were slipping.

Todd was not happy and kicked some amazingly high balls. Nick V didn't want the game to finish and ran until he was bright red. The game was over with the final score 0-4.

Seaforth Ladies U14/3 Superheroes 3 Wakehurst Tigers 1
At Melwood, Sunday 18 May

The Superheroes deserved to take the points today and would easily have doubled the score, but for an outstanding display by both Tigers goalies. At least this week we rained shots on the goal, an element of the game that was stressed at training. It was a good team effort, from the back through to the forward line, and some of the passing was terrific.

But it wasn't the best of starts. Perhaps Seaforth was a little too relaxed, knowing they were up against a team well below strength, because Wakehurst scored the first goal (courtesy of Charli, who was happy to pull on a Tigers shirt to help them out). Anna Rose blocked and then held a fierce shot, but she was pressured into dropping the ball and Charli made no mistake from close range.

The Superheroes were stung into action, and suddenly it was all happening up the other end. Anna Tweedie went probing but two top shots were saved. We were camped in the Tigers half, and finally all the pressure paid off. Jorja grabbed a throw-in, made good ground down the right, and then put an inch-perfect ball through to Claudia, who hit a good shot over the goalie's head. We really started to apply some heat towards the end of the half, but the goalie peeled off a string of great saves. She reserved the best for last, however, saving Claudia's penalty shot (it was the second we were asked to take: the first snuck in, but we'd moved too quickly).

Into the second half, and it was 2-1 in less than a minute. Anna Tweedie ran onto a lovely pass out of midfield, banged on the pace, and buried a stinging left foot shot. Great finish, and a few minutes later Claudia completed the scoring when she latched onto a soft goal kick, ran in and slid the ball into the bottom corner.

This was a wonderful team effort today. Madolyn made plenty of runs from the deep, and Anna McNee proved to be a handful on the right. Ella, Rebecca, Amanda and Laura kept things nice and steady at the back, while Nina and Natasha and Anna Rose all showed composure on the ball. Top effort, ladies.

Seaforth U6 Falcons vs SFY Cougars

The Falcons are having a great start to the season. Ned headed into goals first and did an amazing job of keeping the ball out. He did some mighty big kicks, which kept the Cougars running. Callum and Tom were all ready for a run and certainly made their presence known with great defending and passing to their team mates. Billy, Pat and Ben were into the action and they tried their hardest to score a goal. Great effort boys. Angus and Brinn covered the ground and the Cougars were unable to get past them. Javier was determined to score a goal and did score. Wow. This is why he said Soccer is the best thing in the world.

At half time we had very red faces. Angus was keen to go in the goals. Although a quiet kid he was not to be messed with in goals and had his eye on the ball at all times. Great job Angus. Billy wanted to score a goal and after a number of attempts, scored 2 great goals with that powerful kick of his. Fantastic. The team was starting to tire and the Cougars managed to get their first goal. The Falcons still determined with Tom running almost the whole field and stopping the Cougars from scoring again. Mighty big run Tom. Pat, Ben and Javier all wanted the ball and played some of the best Soccer for this season. Well played boys. Ned, Brinns and Callums defense was top class and the Cougars could not get past them. Callum did not want the game to end and was close to scoring a goal. Amazing effort. Final Score was 2-0. Another win for the Falcons.

Players of the Match went to Callum and Angus. Our new Falcon Mascot went to Billy. Go the Falcons.

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Narrabeen Barracudas

When playing against a team of fish, one should never give them too much room. Never more than a spot. Or something may happen. You never know what.

From the kick off it was clear that our fishy opponents this week had talent by the bucket load. They attacked the goal so relentlessly that Harry, the goalie for the first half, must have felt like a steak in a pool of piranhas. They swarmed the goal with wave after wave of impressive, well-constructed attacks. Harry held back the tide with a number of fine saves, and the occasional fortunate intervention of the woodwork. Lily soon took matters into her own hands and, displaying some fancy footwork (which was unintentionally cruel because hands and feet are physical attributes seldom seen in Barracudas), she flicked the ball from foot to foot then back-heeled it to Torben. Torben raced down field, passed it back to Lily who struck the ball with such precision that it ran into the goal almost in slow motion. A few minutes later the Panthers added to their tally, when Torben impressively trapped the ball from a goal kick and from 20 meters out fired it into the back of the net. 2 - 0 to the Panthers.

Undeterred the Barracudas bit back. Although Conor, Daniel and William created a defensive wall which appeared impenetrable, the Barracudas swam through. Gabriel and Luke did their best to turn the opposition on their tails. Harry made a few more saves but the Barracudas would not be denied and scored twice to end the half at 2 all.

The second half was highlighted by Torben's towering goal kicks, which soared over the Barracudas heads, immediately putting the Panthers on the attack. As a result of one of these imposing kicks the Panthers launched a trade-mark attack, featuring Luke, who passed to Gabriel, who ran like the wind, who passed it to Conor, who flicked it on to Lily, who shot it into the goal (taking a deflection off a perplexed Barracuda on the way). 3-2 to the Panthers.

At this stage in the game a rather strange thing occurred. The Panther's relaxed a little. Not much, but just enough to give the Barracudas room - room to move, room to be expansive, room to grow. And grow they did. The Barracudas grew, and they grew, and they grew. Towards the middle of the second half they had 7 players on the field. And they went right on growing. A few minutes later, when they scored the equaliser, the Barracudas numbers had swelled impressively to 9. Inevitably, through a combination of fine skill and sheer weight of numbers, the Barracudas scored again. When this anomaly was drawn to the attention of the Barracuda Coach he assured us that the fault lay with his players. He explained, quite persuasively, that when substituting players it is his habit to send the new player on the field before taking the substituted player off. In the event that the substituted player does not voluntarily come off the field, he then sends an additional player on to convey a message of some sort. Then if the message bearer doesn't come off the process repeats itself, and so on and so forth until his reserve bench is fully depleted. Which, of course, makes perfect sense if you think about it long enough.

The Panther's attempted an equaliser and got close a couple of times. Like Captain Ahab railing against Moby Dick, in the end the fish was just too big. Final score 4-3 to the Barracudas.

"Not to worry" said Coach Haslam during the team debrief, "losing with good grace is an important lesson to learn. And anyway" he added "they were a very good team". "Yeah" said William "and there sure were a lot of them."

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Forest Killarney Seagulls

A tough game, not pretty, but characterised by tough tackling in the pack, and a never say die attitude from the Hawks that saw us come back from 2-0 down to manage a draw against our toughest opposition for a couple of seasons.

We were slow to start the first half, and the Seagulls took advantage, hammering our goals and Byron did a fantastic job as 'keeper to deny them. Jay's work in defence also helped keep the opposition goalless, while Jordan and Michael were heavily involved in the tough work through the middle of the pack. Ben played end-to-end, chasing down breakaways and starting counterattacks with his passing.

Either side of halftime it was Wayne and Eddie who looked most likely to open the scoring for the Hawks. Wayne found good position and had some solid shots, while Eddie showed skill to find space on a few occasions, only to be shut down by some swarming defence.

Two goals down mid way through the second half, it would have been easy to become frustrated, but the Hawks worked hard and stayed patient. Stirling was the one who broke the drought with two great goals, the first a fantastic long-range effort. The boys worked very hard right to the end of the match, chasing opposition breaks and getting themselves between the ball and our goal. Jay, Stirling, Eddie and Byron all making great last second tackles.

Great effort to come from behind the way you did against a tough and frustrating opposition.

Seaforth Ladies U14/3 Superheroes 2 Belrose 4
At Seaforth, Sunday 11 May

This was a game of plenty of opportunities but not a lot of clinical finishing. Belrose probably had no more than seven or eight shots on goal in the entire game, but four of those shots were converted into goals. By contrast, the Superheroes dominated for long stretches of both halves but couldn't finish off.

The Superheroes began brightly and opened the scoring, thanks to a great cross from Anna Tweedie. Confusion in defence resulted in an own goal, and this led to a period of sustained attack by the home side. We were right on top, but suddenly Belrose clicked into gear and scored three times in quick succession. It might have been more but for some great saves from Laura, one of which must be regarded as the save of the year: tipped onto the bar from point-blank range.

Into the second half, and the Superheroes were right back in the game. Ella, Amanda, Maddie, Laura and Charli were all holding strong in defence, while our mid-field and forward line looked for openings. But once again, Belrose ambushed us and a strong shot gave Anna Rose no chance. 4-1, and things were looking grim, but Bec, Tasha, Nina and Anna McFee had other ideas. Finally, some reward for all the effort: Tasaha swept down the right, past some strong defence, delivering the ball to Anna Tweedie; she in turn passed to Nina, who swept the ball into the net, over the head of the keeper. 4-2, and that was the final score (special thanks to Anna Rose, who made two top saves late in the match).

This was a game that perhaps got away from us, but we will learn from this loss. And although the scoreline might not reflect it, all of our players (especially Bec) showed the passing and heading and tackling drills from training are being brought to the game. Good on you, ladies.

Seaforth U6 Falcons vs Mosman Yellow Tails

The Falcons learnt to fly this week with Tom in goals he managed to stop the Yellow Tails from scoring. The Falcons were all keen and played well as a team. Billy scored 2 goals in the first half with Pat following with a goal. Amazing effort boys.

Callum did some great defense with Javier and Angus covering the field and stopping the Yellow Tails from getting past them. Ned came on late and tried to score but was not lucky enough. He was ready for plenty of running. Brinn was a great thinker and proved to be a great team player. Good boy. Ben came out of nowhere and took control. His reward was a goal. Well done Ben.

Second half was just as action packed with Ben in goals and stopping all attempts. Javiers was on a roll and added another 3 goals for the Falcons. Fantastic effort Javier. Callum and Ned tried so hard to score a goal but ended up being amazing defenders.

Angus although quiet for a moment, piped up and played some great Soccer especially in defence. Brinn did some good kicks and passed for the Falcons. Tom was on defense and did some big runs up the field. After his try was not allowed he was on a mission and then his next attempt was allowed. Well done Tom. Pat was in the right place and managed to score another goal. Way to go. Nothing was stopping this team. Final score was 9-0.

Players of the Match Ned, Ben and Tom.

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Mosman Alligators

An excellent match where the Hawks totally dominated the game both in the score, and also in the way they controlled the ball and played their soccer.

The whole team really showed how far they have come in their passing, ball control and support for each other. Early in the first half Jay's shot cannoned off the post and Stirling was on hand to thump it home. Byron chipped in with two goals in the first half, one from a great corner by Wayne that threaded through the pack, the second an individual effort where he dribbled free from a crowd of players to finish with a solid shot.

A highlight of the first half was Jay taking the ball down the left wing, crossing it in front of goal where Ben stretched out with a sliding right boot to score a well-constructed team goal. Wayne was unlucky not to score, getting into space on numerous occasions and challenging the Mosman 'keeper.

In the second half the team carried on what they had started. Eddie, relishing being released from goalkeeping duties was on the attack, and when a Mosman defender blocked Byron's shot, Eddie was in good position to finish it off for a goal. Jordan and Michael worked tirelessly through the midfield with solid tackling, which cut short any potential counter attack by Mosman. We finished the match with another couple of goals to Byron and Stirling that featured great passing by numerous Hawks players.

This was a well-deserved result for a team playing great team soccer.

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Collaroy Cromer Strikers Cahills

The mere mention of the opposition's name this week struck fear into the heart of the Panthers' coach. The Cahills! Had some mad scientist, with his eye on a Socceroo victory in the 2022 World Cup, produced a team of cloned Timmy Cahills? How could the Panthers hope to withstand a whole team of genetically perfect footballers? Would an opponent capable of slicing through Brazil's back line (and unafraid to box the living daylights out of any corner flag which got in its way) soon have the Panthers reeling like the Japanese in Kaiserslautern? Or would Coach Haslam take a leaf out of the Marcello Lippi Coaching Manual and have the Panthers diving like Italians?

Three minutes into the first half it seemed that the Coach's worst fears were confirmed when, living up to their name-sake, the Cahills mounted a sophisticated multi-phased attack. Gabriel, who was in goal in the first half, manfully repelled the first two shots on goal, but was unable to stop a superb strike which was fired into the far-side net. 1 - 0 to the Cahills. The Cahills again went on the attack but this time Gabriel pulled off a great save and a kick so powerful the Cahills soon found themselves deep in their own half. Within seconds Lily pounced, as Panthers are prone to do. She fired an extraordinary shot which slammed pinball-like into the woodwork, ricocheted off the post, rebounded off the goalie back to Lily's boot, which she then dispatched for a second and final time into the goal. Luke then chimed in with a solid attempt which was saved. A few minutes later Lily troubled the scoreboard further with her second for the day. They responded by introducing fresh players, which in normal circumstances would have been fair, except that their coach forgot that they were substitutions, not additions, leaving the Cahills with a formidable 8 players on the field at the same time. Despite their impressive numbers Conor, Lloyd and Harry still managed to forge their way through the crowd. Then William, who tasted the sweet sensation of goal-scoring for the first time only last week, came back for more and scored with minutes left on the clock. 3 - 1 to the Panthers at half time.

The second half saw the Panthers’ rampage continue. Lily scored her third for the day. Gabriel ran and passed impressively. Conor and Torben were work-horses in mid field. Lloyd swept up all in defence. So dominating was the Panthers performance that with five minutes still remaining in the half Daniel, in goal, and Harry in defence decided to take the weight off their feet. They sat down mid field, with their backs to the action and had a good old-fashioned chat. After they had righted the wrongs of the world, Daniel slowly stood up, wandered back to his goal and, arriving in the nick of time, nonchalantly saved a goal. To add insult to injury, with the game in the dying seconds, Luke scored his second for the season, rounding out another fantabulous team performance.

Final score: 5 - 1 to the Panthers.
Well played Panthers (and not a dive in sight!). 2022 here we come.

Matt and Liam did fantastic defense with some good moves. Matt and Nic C went and scored a goal each. Ben V was doing plenty of running and helping the team. Seaforth U8 Possums vs Panthers

"Battle of the P's"
After an interrupted start to the season with school holidays, the Possums were greeted to a clear blue sky and a lush cover of foliage at Tania Stadium, Balgowlah Heights. If tickets sales were any guide, then this game was set to be a cracker. The Panthers were seen shaking in their size 3 boots, as Amy Sweetnam strode confidently into the Possum circle for her debut. Coach Green quickly assembled his troops ahead of the battle with the Panthers. As the crowd quickly reached for their seats, Zoe was given the keepers jersey and her Father was given the whistle. The usual warm up session was executed with flair and precision.

With a 3-2-1 formation, the Possums quickly went on the attack to once again, give the legion of supporters hope for our maiden victory for 2008. Jack and Sophie were relentless in attack. Sophie, seemed to have adopted a style of aggression not seen or expected from Mr and Mrs C... arguably she had her best match to date... Chloe was a rock supporting Zoe in goal. Time after time she help repel many a raid from the Panthers. The match came to a climax, when like a exocet missile from the Panthers, Zoe was able to inadvertently head butt the ball away from goal. After some treatment from concerned medico's, the Westpac Helicopter was called off and Sinead was given the keepers gloves. The Panthers were able to squeeze 2 goals in ahead of the half time hooter.

Possums converged on the kilos of oranges and gallons of water readily available. Coach Green emphasised the need to hunt as a pack, in a take no prisoner frame of mind. Chloe was given the keepers jersey and the crowd quickly reached for their seats for the second half.

If a game was of two halves, it was this one. Panthers want on to the attack immediately after resumption of play. Two quick goals broke the Possums back (but never their spirit). Paddy, Sinead and Caira were tireless in their mid field efforts. Jack and Sinead was a constant thorn. Amy and Sophie once again, continued to harass the Panthers defence. History was almost in the making, as Sophie went within mm of scoring our first girl goal for the Possums. This will only leave the fans screaming for more next week. Panthers squeezed 2 more goals that ensured a narrow defeat for the home team. (0-6) !

After match three cheers were exchanged, before quickly re-hydrating, while words of wisdom were delivered from Coach Green. Zoe was awarded Possum of the week for "Courage under fire" after returning from a first half injury. Imogen was sorely missed and we look forward to her skills next week. Stay tuned for last minutes postings of time and venue for a our next game from Manager Sullivan.

Until next time...

Seaforth Ladies U14/3 Superheroes 3 Curl Curl 1
At Curl Curl, Sunday 4 May 2008

It was freezing on the sidelines but the Superheroes turned on a red-hot brand of football to score their first win of the season. The ladies thoroughly deserved the victory, and the margin could quite easily have been greater, but this will do wonders for their confidence.

Seaforth quickly established the tone of the match, applying all the early pressure. Curl Curl mounted two long-range raids but both came to nothing and suddenly it was 1-nil. Jorja pounced on a goal kick that didn't travel very far and drove the ball sweetly into the net. The second goal came a few minutes later, again from a goal kick that didn't clear the box. Anna Tweedie was first to the ball out towards the left-hand touchline; she controlled it beautifully, took it in to the line and then lofted a left-foot centre kick that soared straight over the goalie's head and into the net. 2-nil and the Superheroes were cruising, but it was 3-nil only moments later, courtesy of Jorja. Claudia controlled the ball in midfield and flicked it through to Jorja who ran into space and scored a wonderful solo goal, giving the goalie no chance in putting it away. Late in the half, Curl Curl staged several raids but excellent composure from Laura, Ella, Sarah and Charlie denied every opportunity.

Curl Curl came out fired up in the second spell, and it wasn't long before Anna Rose was forced to make a great diving save. She was called on to make a second, moments later, after another quick break by the Curl Curl forward line. Suddenly, Curl Curl was applying all the pressure and Bec, Anna McNee, Nina, Tash and Maddy were busier than they'd been all game. Suddenly a quick break out of midfield, and Anna Tweedie delivered a pin-point cross from the left; Bec showed great composure on the ball to slot it in to the goal with the side of her boot, but the ref called her for a very marginal off-side.

With time running out, Curl Curl attacked again and finally was rewarded with a great goal. A shot thumped against our post and when the ball ricocheted back into play, an unmarked Curlie player was on hand to poke it into the net.

3-1 the final score, and the Superheroes thoroughly deserved their win. They played with confidence right across the park, and will take a lot of heart from this effort. Well done, ladies.

Seaforth Ladies U14/3 Superheroes 0 Forestville 1
At Melwood, Sunday 27 April 2008

An unlucky own goal brought the Superheroes undone on a lovely sunny morning at Melwood. We dominated this game in terms of position and possession, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Perhaps all the recent rain made us a little rusty in front of goal, but the girls never stopped trying and will be better for the run.

Seaforth started brightly into the wind and bright sun, putting plenty of early pressure on the home team. Our midfield and backline were resolute and provided plenty of ball for the forwards, but we just couldn't convert chances and half-chances into goals. A shot by Anna McNee blazed over the bar from the first corner they conceded; another edged by the post, just millimetres from the target.

We were applying so much pressure it seemed to be simply a matter of time before we scored, but it was 1-nil to Forestville on the 15 minute mark. A back-pass slipped past our keeper, and that was the signal for the green shirts to go on the offensive. Charli was forced to make a wonderful save with her feet, but generally our defenders were on top of things and we went to half-time still right in the game.

Into the second half, and the Superheroes dominance was even more pronounced, with the wind and the sun at their backs. Forestville found themselves camped in their own half, with the goal under siege. Nina hit a great strike from about 20 metres out that whistled past the goal, and we forced a string of corners, but we still couldn't convert. If anything, we were too reluctant to have a crack from some way out, and that perhaps cost us in the end. It was left to Anna Rose in goal to provide the second half highlight, with a terrific save on the whistle.

Laura, Natasha, Madolyn and Amanda were all solid as can be at the back, and they kept pushing the ball up into the midfield where Bec (great heading!), Anna McNee, Anna Rose, Charli and Nina were busy and creative. In turn, Jorja and Claudia were up front, looking for chances but it just wasn't our day today.

Seaforth U6 Falcons vs Curl Curl Orchas

Another great day for Soccer and the Falcons were very keen for a run. Ned and Angus played some great kicks with plenty of running from Ben and Brinn. Javier came out of nowhere and played like a pro. So determined to get the ball. Callum was keen to have his turn and played some good passes with Ben standing by to take control. Tom did some big kicks and some amazing defense. With Billy ever so keen and playing his best the team played as one and Billy went onto score his first goal. Great effort Billy. Pat did an amazing effort at goalie and the Orchas could not get past him.

The second half was just as action packed with many attempts to score another goal. Pat was fresh and ready for a run and played some good moves. The whole team played so well without a complaint. Javier just kept on the ball and went onto winning the Player of the Match award. Brinn was exhausted but just kept on going and also earned himself Player of the match.

Well done Falcons we are all so proud of you. Final Score was 1 Zero.

The elegance of the team’s play was matched only by the elegance of the ref's footwear in this thrilling match.

Although we scored two goals (well done Kara and Corrine!) to the Lobsters 1, the teams were actually very evenly matched and it was a tight game.

In keeping with Seal tradition, one player had to be carried off but managed to stage a full recovery. Both teams displayed good sportsmanship and the Seals are actually starting to pass to each other!

Seaforth U7 Panthers v Beacon Hill Bandits

The theme for this week's pre-match motivational speech was teamwork. "Just remember lads, and Lily" said Coach Haslam "a team is like a well-oiled printing press; each cog, no matter how small, plays an essential role; each part is integral to the whole, beautiful, magical process." Nine small faces looked blankly up at him. "That's all very interesting coach" interrupted Gabriel "but who are we playing this week?" "The Beacon Hillbillies - Yee Hah!” shrieked Daniel. "Now, now" said the coach "they may be from the hills, but that doesn't mean that they are any different from the rest of us." Just as those words left the coach's lips a truck screeched into Seaforth Oval with a team of Bandits inside and their coach tied to a rocking chair perched high on its roof. "Reckon we're a hankerin' to pay kick the can" said their flamboyant coach from beneath his white, gas-station sunglasses. All indications pointed to this being an unusually entertaining encounter.

From the kick off the Panthers played as though the seats of their britches were on fire. Lily attacked relentlessly and had several impressive assaults on goal, which were saved by the Bandit goalie. To her awe-struck opponents, Lily's skilful play must have seemed as novel as indoor plumbin'. She was eventually rewarded in the seventh minute with a delightful goal, lofted over the keeper's head. Every attack by the Bandits was thwarted by the Panthers. Conor in defence was tougher than road-kill stew. Torben, in goal, kicked the ball like a mule with a sore head. A few minutes before half-time William shot solidly past the outstretched goalie and scored his first ever goal. 2 - nil to the Panthers at half time.

The half time break provided welcome relief for the Bandits, who had suffered their loud coach hollerin' at them from the side line for 15 minutes. During the interval Coach Haslam was approached by his colourful counterpart and asked "Can ya please put that Lily fella' in goal? "Cause there ain't nothin' a man can get his fill of, faster, than scrappin' with a girl."

So into goal she went but it made little difference because, just as Coach Haslam had predicted, teamwork was the lesson for the day. Luke kicked and chased down the field and, in a manoeuvre as decorative as a cee-ment pond, chipped the ball over the top of the Bandit defence and into the goal. Gabriel then chimed in, running like he'd sat in a briar patch, passing the ball to the feet of his team mates and almost scoring with a shot that would have found the net had the goal-keeper's face not gotten in the way. Torben scored number four with an unstoppable kick and Harry followed suit with a goal that was slicker than a jug of moonshine. The beautiful display of teamwork was completed by Lloyd and Daniel, who ran around the park quicker than critters on a hot tin roof.

Final score: 5 - nil to the Panthers.

As the sound of the Bandit coach having conniptions slowly faded over the horizon Daniel called out "Hey Bandits, thanks for kindly droppin' in." "Yeah" said the rest of the team in unison "Y'all come back now, y'hear."
- Now that's what I call teamwork.

Todd played hard and kicked some very high shots. Great first half with the Score 4-0.

The second half came around fast with Will keen to go in goals. Nic C was ready for a run and scored a goal in his first run of the field. Liam, Todd, and Nick V played some great team work. Seaforth U6 Falcons vs Cromer Giraffes

It was the first game for the Falcons with only one training, and they did really well. No tears and we were running the right direction. A top game by all. Ned felt the nerves but once on the field he had a really good game.

Some really big kicks from Tom, Pat and Billy. Ben, Angus, Callum and Javier pulled out some great moves and looked as if they were having a really good time.

Second half the Falcons played amazing however they had to fight to keep the Giraffes from scoring. Billy and Pat were itching to score a goal. Pat ended up scoring our only goal. Well done Pat. Was he excited!

Ben, Tom and Callum played some really great team work but just could not get that much wished for goal. Final score was 1-8. Bad luck guys but we are so proud of you all.

Player of the Match went to Billy Jacobs and Pat Burke for scoring our first goal. Great Job.

Seaforth U6 Bears

Game 1
It was a cool morning but by kick-off it was hot. This was going to be a tough opener to the footie season as it was our first time on the bigger field and we are playing longer halves. Not only that, we only had a couple of substitutes and we were playing the 'Machines'.

The game was a see-sawing battle, they scored, we replied, they scored again, only for us to tenaciously level the scores once again. The Machines finally snuck in a late goal near the end.

Still it was a great effort by all. We defended very well. Our midfield provided good opportunities for our forwards, the forwards looking dangerous all the time.

Barney was brilliant in goal, especially with his long raking clearing kicks. Kate was resolute in defence, stopping many attacking raids. Alex diffused many threats from the opposition. Emerson was safe and strong. Jack was extremely busy - he never stopped running. Kai was dangerous and threatening. Thomas lurked on the right, setting up a cracker of a goal from a corner. Jasper was the juggernaut, who never stopped trying. Mia played tough, never taking a backward step against some of the oppositions big boys. Zane, the sharpshooter smashed in 2 great goals.

This week we’ve got a 9.30 start against the Trojans. Don't forget training on Tuesday.

Seaforth U6 Echidnas Vs Seaforth Seals

Although we had many new players, the Seals made a great start to the season with a 4-1 victory. Hampered only by some confusion as to which end we were aiming for on the part of some team members, Charlie was a one-man scoring machine.

Whilst the playing may have been uneven, a deep vein of acting talent was uncovered, with at least four members of the team having to be carried from the field, sobbing. For a non-contact sport, it was a surprisingly injury-prone game.

All players recovered the power of walking and indeed running after a parental hug. Phew

Seaforth U7 Panthers v The Pittwater Mudcrabs

Last weekend, as autumn heralded the start of a new football season, the Under 7 Panthers ran onto the pitch against the Pittwater Mudcrabs. The change of seasons was not the only metamorphosis to have occurred over the interval. Clearly summer has been kind to the Panthers, who seem 6 inches taller than when they last played and are now able to fill their over-sized jerseys. Having cast aside the tiny soccer boots of their childhood, would this team prove to be better or just bigger than last year?

Wiley, one of our star mid-fielders in 2007, was absent, having defected to play basketball in America. In his place this year is Luke, a fresh recruit who was talent-scouted by Coach Haslam showing some early promise in the school playground.

Within minutes of kick off the Panthers showed that they had grown in ability and not just in size. They immediately went on the attack through Lily, who struck a beautiful 2nd minute corner, which was saved by the Mudcrabs. Torben showed fine attacking skills with a brilliant strike from 20m out, which narrowly missed the target. Conor was clever in defence, stopping the opposition in their tracks and turning the ball around with ease. When the Mudcrabs had an opportunity to go forward (which is something crabs don't do very often) they were denied by Daniel in goal with a good save and a strong kick off his line. Luke showed with his first touch of the ball that the coach's confidence was justified with sturdy kicking and a willingness to attack the ball. Gabriel ran tirelessly in the half, as did William, Harry and Lloyd. Towards the end of the first period Lily trapped the ball on her side of the halfway line, dribbled down the field and scored in an exquisite one-woman effort.

1 - 0 to the Panthers at half time.

The second half saw the Panthers keep their shape and their heads. Harry put on a manful display in goal, denying the Mudcrabs on several occasions with confident saves and powerful kicks. Torben, Conor and Gabriel played with maturity and strength. William, Daniel and Luke put in manful performances in mid-field. Lloyd showed composure beyond his years when, soon after a ball bloodied his lower lip, he returned to the field. As with last year, the scoring duties fell to Lily, who scored her second for the day with an exceptional kick struck high into the left corner of the net. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Final score: 2 - nil to the Panthers

Congratulations Panthers. What a great start to the season.

Player of the match: Harry
Most improved: William

Seaforth U7 Hawks vs Mosman Dragons

The Hawks started the season well with a strong performance at Tania Park against an opposition with some skilful players.

Within the first couple of minutes Eddie had opened the scoring with a solid strike, then was unlucky not to score again soon after. Jay worked hard in goals to keep the opposition scoreless at halftime with some great saves and strong clearing kicks. The Mosman goalkeeper was also forced to scramble after Ben made an angled run across the penalty box then hooked the ball back towards the goal with a solid shot.

Michael was heavily involved in midfield with Jordan and both guys showed a massive jump in skill, strength and involvement since last season. They got stuck into tackling the opposition before they had a chance to break away, then sending the ball forward.

The second half started well with Stirling using some impressive skills to control the ball from a Mosman throw-in, and then pass the ball to Jay in space who slammed it home for a second goal. The opposition then lifted their intensity and through some skilled dribbling came back with two goals to tie the game up. Eddie then found space on the left, and threaded the needle between a defender, the goalie and the post to score his second goal. With everyone tiring, Wayne found the energy for a couple of long dribbling runs down field and Michael made a great diving save to deny Mosman the equaliser.

This was a great game from the Hawks and we look forward to having Byron fit and back on the field next week.

Seaforth U9 Bandits v Pittwater Tigers
at Boondah
Score: 5-5
Seaforth Goals: Liam 3, Alex 2
Goalies: Jadon, Christian

Well the boys put on quite a show in their first match of the year at a very warm and sunny Boondah Reserve. After a start which saw the boys immediately on the attack and Liam firing his first goal the game settled down with everyone in the action.

Eoin was a standout, solid and skilful in defence whilst Liam used his pace well and only a fantastic goalie for Pittwater kept them in the game.

Jadon was a strong goalie in the first half and the passing from everyone at times was a sign that the coach has worked the team well in pre season. Rory was a handful up front, Alex, Cameron and Ben made some smart runs down the flank whilst Isaac, Jack, Max and Angus also chipping in with some solid team play.

In the second half, Pittwater got on top and despite looking beaten at 4-2 down and 5-4 down late the boys conjured a draw with a goal that can't really be described except to say it was another skilful effort by Liam. Christian also held up as a goalie under pressure with some strong saves.

A great first up effort that if repeated across the year will see some frazzled nerves but happy boys.

Seaforth Ladies U14/3 Superheroes 2 Beacon Hill 2
At Seaforth, Sunday 6 April 2008

This was a crackerjack opening to the season, and there was plenty for the players and the parents to enjoy. It was a see-sawing contest that saw the play surge from end to end, and the Seaforth ladies showed tremendous courage to come back from a 2-nil half-time deficit to share the points.

Beacon Hill began brightly and an early shot from long range blazed over the bar, but Seaforth was displaying plenty of composure on the ball. The Superheroes pressed forward and forced the first corner of the game, but then Beacon Hill scored from a fast break. It was one of the best goals you'll ever see at this level: a great run and a brilliant strike that gave our goalie no chance. It wasn't one-way traffic: Claudia hit the post at the other end, and Bec fired one over the top, but we couldn't find the back of the net. Beacon Hill could, however, scoring Beckham-style from a free kick to go to the break 2-nil in front.

Into the second half, and the Superheroes came out with renewed determination. We pressed forward down the right, and Anna unleashed a wonderful shot from the edge of the box that cannoned off the bar. Another narrow miss! But the relentless pressure was beginning to rattle the Beacon Hill defence and we opened our account when one of the visitors obligingly poked the ball into her own net. That setback only served to fire up the visitors, and they launched a sustained attack, winning three corners in a row. But robust defence from Nina, Laura, Charlie and Sarah (and of course one or more of the Annas - we have three in our team!) kept our goal secure. Finally a ball split the defence and found Claudia on the forward line. She took the ball in on the toe before unleashing a shot that the goalie could only block into the bottom right corner of her net. 2-all the final score, and that was probably a fair reflection of the game. Well done, ladies.
