U10 Dingoes - 2015 Season Report

A shaky start for u10 Dingoes. Having lost 2 registered players even before new boots hit training soil, the squad of 8 were desperate for players and understandably nervous. Jesse Austin, Callum Douglas, Cian McGinley, Vincent McMullen, Leon McWilliam and Brody Poole having played together at SFC welcomed Jaden Grant, existing SFC player and Finnegan Drew from another Club. With some urgent recruiting needed, newcomer from New Zealand Hugo Johnson was snapped up no sooner than landing in the country. Jake Griffith past SFC player and Leo Chiarini a new signup joined. 11 Dingoes ready to battle under the skilful eye of Coach Gavin Drew.

Commitment was never in question, having clocked up 4 training sessions before the first game, and 7 training sessions before game 2... the Dingoes were eager. Marred by wet weather, closed fields, cancelled games, and more wet weather a slooooow start to the season and with only 1 out of 2 games proceeding, it was “all trained up and nowhere to go...”.

Luckily the dry Wednesdays for training enabled the Dingoes to connect as a team, and improve skills.

As weather improved, the latter part of the season presented opportunities to display camaraderie, team work, individual skills and acknowledge that the old saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ also applies to footy... carpools, a fantastic Coach, sportsmanship and continued support by parents, relatives and friends, cheering from the side-lines, refereeing and bringing treats and coffees, the Dingoes have had a super season. Oh, and also quietly chuffed of their 9 straight wins.

What this Seaforth team lack in stature is made up with courage, perseverance and resilience. In a closely fought contest the Seaforth girls won by the closest of margins, 1-0.

The game was won in midfield, Seaforth controlling and supplying plenty of ball to the nippy forwards who were unfortunate not to convert their chances. The defense was solid and rarely troubled. In a game where goals were hard to come by, Seaforth were awarded a penalty mid way through the second half. A nervous moment for the parents and friends in the stand but Seaforth stalwart and captain on the day, Sarah Mitchell stepped up and the placement of the kick was beyond the reach of even Australian legend Mark Schwarzer. It was a nail biting 10 minutes to go and the girls held on to their slim and a well deserved win.

A good all round team performance on a day where subs were few, the pitch was big and the ball was moving fast on the artificial turf. A very proud day for this team of pocket rockets, their coach and manager.

This Sunday sees the Quarter Finals of the Champions of Champions, with Seaforth WU12-1s playing Camden Tigers. Good luck girls!

Seaforth U15s represented MWFA in the Champion of Champions competition on Sunday 13.9. The match was played in Dubbo against Wellington Warriors so the team along with many parents and siblings travelled 400km to get to the first round game. Sunday in Dubbo started with sunshine and the match was played in very warm conditions on a dusty and rather slippery field - water was consumed in gallons throughout the game!

Seaforth started the match confidently with full midfield domination and gave the Wellington team defense a great deal of pressure from the whistle. First Seaforth goal was scored by striker Tom Beresford confidently inside the penalty area - a well deserved goal for the team after a very strong start.

In the second half Seaforth continued rolling in the attacks, eventually gaining a corner that was so skillfully served by Joe McCauley that the ball found its way to the bottom of net via a Wellington player. Later on in the half a Wellington kick out of their defense was masterfully returned to the penalty area by Luca Franks and then finished by Gleb Punanov to the back of the net. A 3-0 victory to Seaforth.

Excellent team effort and near textbook football played by all the Seaforth players - defenders Lachie McGrath, Joe McCauley, Evan Peake, Luca Franks; mid-fielders Travis Watt, Jackson Stensness, Arttu Piisila, Theo Hollington, Alex Giles and the strikers Lachie Flutey, Gleb Punanov and Tom Beresford. Goalie Charlie Cross did an excellent job and gave the Wellington Warriors no chance of scoring. Coaches Gary Giles and Ant Flutey pushed the boys to give their best performance on this exciting long distance match.

The Seaforth FC WU18/2 team won the 'double' this weekend. They won the Championship and the Knock-Out Final. In both cases the runner-up was Manly Vale.

The knock-out final was a very tense affair. At half time the score was one all and again at full time. It then went straight to penalties. Seaforth went second and we won 3-2 on our 5th penalty. Great kudos to our goal-keeper, Alexandra Solterbeck, who saved 2!
