Manly United under-16 captain Leigh Egger was today unveiled as the fourth annual Lucas Neill Scholarship winner.

The three-time NSW representative will board a plane on October 2 for a three-week trip to the UK and train with three clubs including Championship side Leeds United and English Premier League outfit Everton - the club Neill will now call home leading into the 2010 World Cup.

Neill's management company Inspire Sports is finalising details on the third club Egger will visit and it is likely to be another high-profile EPL club.

Egger, who regularly played in Manly United's Grade 18 side this season - including during the narrow 1-0 grand final loss to Wollongong at Marconi Stadium earlier this month - said he is looking forward to the experience of a lifetime.

"It's a great opportunity and one I'm determined to take with both hands," he said to a large gathering of television, radio and print media at Cromer Park this morning. "I'm very grateful to Lucas and all the coaches at Manly United for providing this chance and I'll be motivated to do them all proud. I can't wait to get over there and see what it takes to get to the level that Lucas has reached - it will be a real eye opener for me but I'm ready for the challenge."

Egger has worn a Manly United jersey since he made the 2002 under-10 Skills Squad before going onto represent the Manly-Warringah Football Association in the Metropolitan League 11s and 12s. He arrived at Manly United from his local junior club, Seaforth FC. He then progressed through the club's 13s-16s and played a regular role with this year's 18s. He also made the NSW 13s, 14s and 15s along the way - the first Manly United player since Neill himself to make a state team three years running.

Manly United head coach Phil Moss said it was a highlight of the Manly United calendar to announce the winner. "This announcement changes the life of a young footballer forever and that Leigh is the first genuine Manly-Warringah local junior to win it makes it all the more special," Moss said.

"Leigh is a very worthy winner and ticked all the boxes. He will now have the unique opportunity to taste football at the very highest level and the fact he goes over there on the back of a personal endorsement from Lucas allows him to concentrate solely on training well and showing himself. It's always tough for me to narrow down potential winners on to a shortlist to give to Lucas' dad Ed and his Australian-based agent Paddy Dominguez."

"But at the end of the day Leigh showed he has many attributes that can enable him to forge a professional career in the game and that is what tipped him over the line. He is a natural leader, has the technical ability and tactical awareness required and, like Lucas, is very self-assured on the ball and always makes time for himself. Leigh has the ability to rise to the level he is surrounded by and I'm sure he won't let anyone down once he gets to the UK."

Egger, who is training with Sydney FC's youth team to maintain his fitness ahead of the trip, was presented to the media this morning and did television interviews with Fox Sports and SBSTV as well as several radio stations, the Daily Telegraph and The Manly Daily.

He was also presented with two boxes of Nike gear as part of Neill's sponsorship arrangement with the sportswear giant, a mobile phone with credit from Optus so he can stay in touch with family during the trip and other goods from Sony to keep him occupied during the long flight to and from the UK.

The scholarship has launched professional careers for previous winners Chris Payne and Joey Gibbs - both of whom ply their trade for Sydney FC - while Simon Beer has gone on to play for Manly United Grade 20 side and has been earmarked as a first grader of the future at the very least.

"This scholarship is a very unique way for a current Socceroo - let alone the national captain - to put something back into the game," Moss said. "The experience and profile it provides a young player gives them every chance to springboard themselves into a professional career. Manly United is very proud of our record with regards the Lucas Neill Scholarship and we will continue to work overtime in developing young footballers to go on to higher levels of the game."

Strikers Cup Report

Photo: Strikers Cup Squad 2009

The Day of Reckoning.

The Biblical floods had subsided, the sun dried the land and, long awaited, 'The Day' dawned. At last Cromer Lakes had turned back into Cromer Park.

Would this be the year that 'Midgleys Marvels' would put the name of Seaforth proudly back on the Strikers Cup after an absence of sixteen years? It would be tough with 24 top teams all trying to do the same.

Confidence was high being unbeaten in 5 pre tournament games, winning 4, drawing one and scoring 12 goals in the process. Coach Paul Midgleys regular training sessions had forged a team with spirit and strength in every department.

With the key No 1 and No 9 shirts being being rotated between the versatile, fast and agile Noah Cooper and Ben Rymill the team were set. Marshalled by the Dynamic Duo of Charlie Raward and Joa Aitkin in the middle the back four were complete with Nic Campbell and Tom Hughes as the flying full backs. The midfield and the forward line was just as packed with talent. Speedsters Tom Dubourdieu and Joe McCauley on the wings, the 'never say die' pairing of Alex Giles and Fergus Rogers, the sublime Sam Pearson, diminuatively dynamic and versatile Alexander Reidy as a terrier up front or in the back four with classy Caleb Southee-Sami and talented Ben Campbell completing the line up.

The seconds ticked away to the whistle that would see the opening game against Pittwater underway. The Boys lined up in their positions proudly wearing the white of Seaforth... what would the day hold for the team and the travelling fans? We would soon find out as the whistle shrilled, 'Game On'.

Clearly nerves had played a part and it took both teams time to settle into the game. Pittwater had plenty of possesion in the first half but the Seaforth midfield and back four comfortably handled the pressure with Joa and Charlie as solid as rocks in the middle repulsing any Pittwater forward who dared to try and pass. Ben R in goal gave confidence to the whole team by professionally handling anything that did elude the stalwart defence. Nil all at half time, still anyone's game.

Seaforth came out of the blocks a little bit sharper in the second half but it was still largely a midfield battle. When Joe collected the ball and made a blistering run down the left wing he left his marker in his wake. Cutting inside the goal was at his mercy with Ben R tearing into the middle. Was this the moment the travelling Seaforth faithful were waiting for? Joe unleashed his sweet left foot and drilled a shot towards the near post, the goalie was well positioned but could he hold on to the powerful shot to prevent the prowling Ben from hungrily snapping up the crumbs? Unfortunately for Seaforth he could but what great football from both sides.

Before the excitment had subsided Pittwater were on the attack with the right winger cutting inside and aiming a terrific shot at the far post. Noah, now wearing No 1, was having none of this as he confidently narrowed the angle, went to his right and brilliantly held the fizzing shot.

End to end stuff, the coach and manager's nerves were shot to pieces (let alone the parent's) and the first game wasn't even over yet!

When the final whistle went honours were still even, a point apiece and all to play for in the remaining group games.

Seaforth knew there was plenty of room for improvement and set out to show this in game 2 against Springwood. Springwood had some speed merchants up front but so did Seaforth from front to back. Both teams again started slowly but Seaforth eventually started to show what they were capable of. With the back four squeezing up and supporting the midfield and forwards confidence was growing, perhaps a little too much as suddenly a long clearance from Springwood saw a threatening breakaway. Ever alert in goal Ben R sprinted off his line and ended up cutting out the danger by reaching the centre circle before anyone else to make the clearance! A let off that Seaforth would not forget.

By the second half Seaforth were dominating with wave after wave of attacks breaking on the Springwood sea wall. Time and again the travelling faithful expected the wall to break but the Springwood keeper in particular stood firm, making several outstanding saves. As the pressure built, something had to give but it took a piece of great team play to unlock the defence. Ben R, having swapped the No 1 shirt for the No 9, gathered the ball on the edge of the Springwood 18 yard box but was shepherded sideways by the determined defence. Ben C cleverly moved away from the ball to create space which Ben R picked out with a perfectly timed ball. Ben C turned on the ball and cooly slotted it past the advancing keeper. One nil to Seaforth and just reward for the teams efforts.

Still Seaforth attacked but were ever mindful that one breakaway was all that Springwood needed to be back in the game. They never did get that chance with Seaforth dominating but unable to extend the lead. It was enough, with Seaforth claiming all three points to be joint leaders of the group with Pittwater.

The final game of the group stage saw Seaforth against arguably the weaker team in the group, Avoca. A win would almost certainly see us through as either Group winners or as one of the two best runners up, depending on the Pittwater result. Confidence was high, this was effectively a knock out game that Seaforth had to win.

Once again the game started slowly with both teams determined not to concede an early goal. Soon the game settled into a battle of attrition akin to trench warfare. Boot it up, the trench was taken only for the ball to be booted back and the trench retaken. Real chances in front of either goal were rare. Seaforth just couldn't find the same flowing football from the previous game or, perhaps, it was Avoca that just wouldn't let them settle.

Increasingly it looked as though just one goal would settle the game. As the game progressed Seaforth's effort was outstanding but trying the direct route to the Avoca goal constantly met a locked door. It was going to take a piece of magic again to unlock it or for someone to use the width of the pitch and sneak in round the back. Fergus and Alex G toiled tirelessly in midfield trying to find the key. Tom H, Nic and Sam were resolute in supporting the attack down the flanks. Tom D and Alex R buzzed like angry bee's trying to find just that chink that would be enough and Caleb's green boots were working overtime. Unfortunately for Seaforth time just ran out. The game ended in stalemate. Would it still be enough? The calculators came out and other results studied but slowly the realisation dawned; one point just wasn't enough.

How could we break this to the boys? They had played their hearts out and deserved to go through. Lumps in throats the manager and coach stood shoulder to shoulder under the shade of the white Seaforth flag proudly flapping in the warm, sunny breeze. Paul broke the bad news. Unfortunately, Seaforth had joined the ranks of England in knowing the heartache of exiting a competition without losing a game or, indeed, without conceding a goal. Despite having scored freely pre tournament, one goal to our name in the finals was just one goal short.

Football can be a cruel game but the Boys took the news stoically. 'Is there any way we can qualify?'. Sadly not but that didn't daunt the boys. They had played with great spirit in a magnificent competition, played with the best from not only the MWFA but also from associations far and wide. Undefeated, unbowed the boys held their heads high. It was all about being part of The Beautiful Game and part of a great tournament. What a great day, great fun and great games that were always going to be tight with goals hard to come by. As one of the organisers said, on any other day it could have been any of the other teams going through to the knock out stages.

The boys looked resplendent in their black Strikers Squad polo shirts as they strode out from the Lucas Neil Stand onto the hallowed turf of Cromer 1 to be presented with their Strikers Cup Medals; everyone a winner.

To be selected from over 100 players to represent Seaforth in such a prestigious tournament was a fantastic achievement in itself; and what better way to spend a Saturday than simply enjoying running around kicking that leather bag of wind with a bunch of mates.

Paul, I and every parent were proud of what the boys had achieved both individually and as a team and they could be rightly proud of themselves. The experience will be invaluable and stand them in good stead for the future not only in the skills they learnt but also in playing in the spirit of the game, being happy yet gracious when winning, disappointed but sporting in defeat and, more than anything, being able to enjoy the moment, win or lose.

Now we hand the baton on to next years team. May they have as much fun as the players, coach, manager and parents did this year, may they learn and progress as the boys did this year, and may they bring back that trophy and restore the name of Seaforth to it for the first time, now, in seventeen years.

Good luck and
C'mon You Whites!!

PS for the mums... (sorry to be sexist) the GK traditionally wears the Number 1 and the Centre Forward the No 9 on their shirts!)

Australian Youth Football Development Foundation

The Australian Youth Football Development Foundation (AYFDF), is a charitable Foundation established to fund programs that assist in developing disadvantaged Australian youngsters into happy and pleasant members of our society. It is helping to make our society safer by nding practical solutions based on football training to focus our youth and provide them the 'skills-for-life'.

Providing opportunities for young people living in metro and rural areas of our vast country to become involved in recreational Football based sporting activities is the basis for the programs that the AYFDF sponsors.

Empowering communities, with the provision of funding through accepted programs to launch football based projects, has been shown to be an effective way of addressing disaffection and empowering young people, increasing their skills and confidence whilst strengthening good community relations.

Sport and recreation as a planned activity can foster self-confidence, provide transferable skills, channel violence and provide opportunities for social interaction. Football is an accessible, affordable and enjoyable means of increasing young people's self-confidence whilst channeling their energies in a constructive direction away from anti-social behavior, becoming depressed, obese or getting involved in crime and drugs.

We believe that the experience of social inclusion activities delivered to our youth by AYFDF funded projects will help address some of the issues in our society today, including:

:: Youth disengagement
:: Alcohol and drug abuse
:: Obesity
:: Lack of respect for authority
:: Lack of responsibility
:: Changing community values
:: Providing confidence to handicapped members of our society

Champs live up to their name

Seaforth U10 Champs

The Seaforth U10 Champs went into the 2009 MWFA Gala day at Melwood Park with high hopes after a strong regular season under long-time coach James Murphie.

The Champs faced off against the much-fancied Wakehurst Buttaflyz outfit in the league season just the week before the Gala day and were unlucky, after leading for much of the game, to concede two late goals in a plucky performance.

So when they came up against Wakehurst in the first game of the Gala day last weekend, the girls were out to prove a point. In a tight game where chances were few and far between, the Champs were again unlucky, but this time not to win with a strong team effort, with the score tied 0-0 after the final whistle. Newcomers to the 2009 Champs team Lucy Ferriera and Maddie Craney showed the extra muscle they've brought to the team with stand out performances.

Knowing that their good result against Wakehurst was key to pulling off a tournament win, the Champs put more pressure on their rivals with a 1-0 win against the Pittwater Starlets in Game 2, with the energetic Alex Solterbeck putting away a fine long range effort late in the first half. A strong Pittwater second half assault was bravely defended with pocket-rockets Nell McNeil and Mia Lambooy starring with their usual resolute, no-nonsense defence.

Game 3 brought on the Manly Vale Zebras, nemesis of the Seaforth team in recent seasons. In what was a typically tight affair, it was a late strike from Molly King that was the difference in the first half. With the players starting to tire badly in the second half, the Zebra's threatened to spoil the Champs tournament hopes. Only some all out commitment from the reliable and skilful Sienna Linden and scrambling defence from another newbie, chatterbox Miranda Bristow kept the Zebra's goal-less.

In a tight tournament, the 1-0 result meant the Champs were now in with a chance, but Wakehurst were keeping up the pressure, heading into Round 4 also undefeated and with goal difference on their side after a good result against Forest Killarney. To be in to win, the Champs needed to win their last game against Forest and make sure they found the back of the net as often as they could.

With tired bodies, the Champs fired themselves up for a their final game, but didn't factor in a gutsy Forest Killarney outfit that kept them score-less, despite applying all the first half pressure. Midfield mainstay Ella West and the Champs other 2009 recruit Jessica Kremer found the energy to stand out in what was a nail-biting first half.

With their tournament chances hanging in the balance, and the team missing the silky skills of regular Gabby Taylor, the Champs kicked off the second half needing goals and some luck to go their way. Enter Molly King again to show the value of following up, who put the Champs in front mid-way through the second stanza. With one goal unlikely to be enough, new sign up Bianca Lacey played her game of the season before regular Champs striker Hannah Murphie then stepped up late in the game with the Champ's goal of the tournament - a decisive strike into the top right hand corner to make certain of the win and give the champs a chance of pulling off the unthinkable.

With an undefeated, three wins and a draw run and regular Goalkeeper Ellie Gillespie keeping a clean sheet throughout the entire tournament, the Champs had done all that they could. It all came down now to the result of the Wakehurst-Manly Vale Round 4 clash. Anything but a win for Wakehurst meant the tournament was the Champs'.

With the Champs nervously watching on, the Buttaflyz and the Zebras played out one of the games of the tournament. It was a fair result when the game ended 0-0 at full time - a result that handed the tournament to the Champs!

Gala Day winners for the first time, the Champs gave coach Murphie the perfect reward after four seasons of dedication - and patience.

Below are a couple of photos from the Alberts holiday in the UK over Xmas
during which Nick Albert (12/1s) was the mascot for a Luton game in League Two.

The game was Luton v Macclesfield on 20th December 2008.
Result was a draw but Nick got to meet all the players beforehand and was presented with
both a signed football and framed signed program.

Nick's Dad Mark also got to meet Mick Harford, an all-time hero of his, who is now the manager.

Silencing the cynics

Daniel Deblaere - photo courtesy of The Manly Daily YOUNG GUNS

DANIEL Deblaere has heard all the excuses. Not physically up to the task, easily pushed off the ball or far too short. Luckily he doesn't listen to the detractors he thrives on the criticism.

"I don't worry when people tell me I am not big enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion," he said. You don't have to be a giant to succeed in football, you just need to be smart. Obviously I don't win much in the air but when you are only 1.57m that is to be expected. Look at players like Man Utd's Paul Scholes he isn't the tallest guy but does the job for his team. I try and play just like him."

The Forestville teenager, who first played with Forest Killarney and Seaforth before moving into the representative scene, loves playing football so much he travels out to the foot of the mountains four nights a week for training with Premier League outfit Penrith Nepean United.

"They gave me a chance in their under-18 squad and I am very grateful for that," Daniel said. "We have a good team and have started the season fairly well. I am really enjoying my football and feel my game is improving each week."

Daniel has a high-profile supporter in former Socceroo Robbie Slater. "I have known Daniel for just over 10 years and I can honestly say I have never come across a kid as determined as him," he said. "His attitude is outstanding and if anyone deserves a chance to prove themselves at the elite level it's Daniel."

His Penrith coach, David Perkovic, is very happy to have Daniel in his squad. "We were looking for a player who could play with both feet and had a knowledge of where to be on the football pitch," he said. "After a couple of training sessions and one trial game it was obvious Daniel was that guy for us."

Seaforth All Stars Shine in Northern Beaches Six-A-Side competition!

On the 18th March the Seaforth U10 All Stars were crowned Champions of the Autumn six-a-side competition at Beacon Hill.

Over 10 weeks the highly fancied CC Strikers 'Lightning', (they won last year's Strikers Cup) and Seaforth finished 1 & 2 in the league and faced off in a titanic grand final. Nil all with 5 minutes the All Stars dug deep to slot home the winning goal and clinch a dramatic victory.

The All Stars distinguished themselves throughout the game by their enthusiasm in competing for every ball and their excellent team play.

The members of the team first came together in last year's U9 Strikers Cup team and are now training together in the U10 1's squad. This young team is showing great promise and with more performances like this are sure to figure highly in the main competition this year.

Seaforth U10 All Stars - 2009 Champions of the Autumn six-a-side competition at Beacon Hill

The team was made up of:
L to R top - Lilli Smith, Tyson Holmes, Fraser Hall, William Mellor,
L to R low - Larry Springfeld, James Griffiths, Joshua McMenamin and Ewan Metcalfe.

A hearty thanks to Coach Phil Smith who organised the team and built the team spirit on which this great result was built!

Well done All Stars - Good luck in the main competition this year!

Goalkeeper Training

ATTENTION GOALKEEPERS AND COACHES

SPECIALIST GOALKEEPING TRAINING

Goalkeeping training will be conducted from 5.00pm - 7.00pm at Seaforth Oval every Wednesday afternoon (except during school holidays) now commencing Wednesday 8th April 2009.

There will be 2 time slots available to cater for different age groups and abilities.
U8 - U10: training will be from 5pm - 6pm.
U11 and up: training will be from 5.45pm - 7pm.

This will be conducted by ex-Australian goalkeeper, Vicki Cerny. Vicki has her Level 2 coaching certificate with Football NSW and has a wealth of experience in the area of goalkeeping.

As you all know, it is impossible for coaches to conduct specific training for the goalkeeper within a normal training session - so don't miss this golden opportunity.

Those keepers who have experienced training with Vicki in the past will no doubt be champing at the bit to participate. See you there.

If you have any queries - please call Sharon Egger on 0421 475840.

This initiative is being funded by Seaforth F.C. - let's support it.

Portable goalpost safety reminder

Clubs, Associations, parents, players and officials are reminded of the importance of securing portable goalposts and the dangers of children playing on them.

This comes after reports that another young soccer player has died in the US after swinging on a portable goalpost.

Since 1986 there have been 8 deaths in Australia from falling goalposts and since 1979 there have been 35 deaths in the USA, mostly involving children.

It is vital that in 2009, all clubs again conduct safety checks on all goalposts prior to the start of season and monitor their safe use and storage during the season.

Goalpost safety brochures and information should also be distributed at the start of the season and made available during the season with regular reminders about goalpost safety throughout the season.

The following is provided for the information of parents, players, officials, clubs and associations:

Let's give this new fun-based format for kids a fair go

- Article by Phil Moss, courtesy of: The Manly Daily

The "Year of the SSG" has arrived as the Manly Warringah Football Association prepares to find out first-hand what all the fuss is about.

Small Sided Games (SSG) will be introduced for all under-6 teams this year, with the MWFA starting out with a zonal program - clubs in certain zones will only play each other.

There is an education program in the planning stages with each zone set to be addressed at information nights throughout March ahead of the April launch. Football Federation Australia (FFA) will also launch a DVD packed with coaching tips and information of the smaller format of the round-ball code.

With mixed feedback from other associations already involved with SSG, it will be very interesting to see how the players and parents accept it on the northern beaches. The whole idea behind the format is to give young players more touches on the ball - which certainly can't be a bad thing. Players can train and be coached as much as they want but unless they are playing games and making decisions under the sort of pressure that only a game can generate, they will not learn and develop their game.

While the MWFA will fine-tune the rules over the coming weeks and distribute them to the clubs, there will be no goalkeepers and only small goals. That has led to some players and parents from other areas complaining that the 'competitive edge' is missing from the new SSG format.

And that is one of the main reasons the MWFA has decided to introduce it to the under-6s only for this season. That way, the majority of youngsters who have already tasted the traditional format of sub-junior football won't be asked to play the new SSG format. If the child started early and played under-6 last year and has another year in that age group, they will be exposed to SSG this year.

The key from my perspective is the coaches and how they manage SSG with their players. Even playing-time and coaching the correct techniques and aspects of the game are crucial to the development of the youngsters and, in turn, their desire to come back and play in future years. SSG is fun-based and all coaches-managers must understand that and structure training sessions the same way.

My thoughts on SSG - and I would hope all involved take the same stance - is to give it a go before you form an opinion. Change is sometimes hard to accept but, if it's for the good of the game and the players that make the game, it's got to be worth a shot.

Adam Israel and Micky Williams join Seaforth FC

Seaforth FC secure the services of former Manly United players Adam Israel and Micky Williams - photo by Simon Dean courtesy of The Manly Daily Manly Warringah Premier League new boys Seaforth FC have hit the ground running in their quest for a top four spot in 2009 after securing the services of former Manly United players Adam Israel and Micky Williams.

The black and whites automatically gained promotion after they took out the Amateur League Division One Major Premiership earlier this year. Having not been in the competition since 2004, the club is aiming to start a revolution at Seaforth Oval.

They have also snared a new manager in Englishman Simon Bloom, who has coached at representative levels in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Israel, who along with Williams will be part of the club's coaching staff, is relishing the challenges that lie ahead. "It is going to be different to what I am used to but that was part of the appeal," he said. "After I had a chat to Simon I was impressed with his plans for the club. He has also managed to grab a few young blokes I spent time with at Manly United who I am looking forward to playing with once again. Even though the season is a while off yet I can't wait to have a kick with the boys."

Williams echoed Israel's thoughts, saying the desire of the club to succeed ensured his signature. "They are really ambitious and that appealed to me," he said. "I am living locally and the short commute to training is going to be fantastic. I had been at Manly United for five years and really think I got out at the perfect time and will be treating the move as my next challenge."

"From what I have heard they had a young squad this year and did very well so it's going to be exciting to play a role in their development. Along with Adam I will be taking on a coaching role with the club and hopefully our experience will rub off on them. The aim will be to get the boys to gel pretty quickly so we can be competitive from the opening whistle."

- Article by Andrew Prentice, courtesy of The Manly Daily

The Future: 2008 & Beyond

Seaforth Football Club - The Future: 2008 & Beyond

THE FUTURE:
2008 & BEYOND

The Seaforth Football Club (SFC) has provided sport to the local community for 30 years. The Club has grown to 1400 players now & has a new Clubhouse & facilities, improved grounds, upgraded lighting and is the envy of the other Football Clubs in the area.

The success of SFC has the Club fielding a Premier League team in 2009 & plans in place to develop the Ladies to the same level. This will place Seaforth FC as a Major Club in the area.

FUTURE SUCCESS:- HOW YOU CAN ASSIST !!!

The Club has reached this position through the tireless efforts of a few dedicated volunteers. Their work has been rewarded through the enjoyment of the players, the friendships with parents and the fantastic facilities now available to Club members, however, there is more to do and MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED for the seasons ahead.

The Club needs to develop its' Premier League team, manage a new Clubhouse, provide Sport facilities for 1400 players, develop Juniors, develop Coaches, develop skills, promote the Club, raise funds and manage the Canteen. This takes a fair bit of work & the old adage, "Many hands make light work" is particularly significant. More volunteers means less work for all.

A review of the Club's Organisational Structure has been completed to identify the positions and roles needed to ensure our future success. The structure is designed to utilise the vast resources within our Club so that, with a few new volunteers, there will be less call on everyone's time and your children (& your children's children) will have the opportunity to continue to play sport in a safe and healthy environment.

WE NEED YOUR HELP !!!

The following positions have been identified as essential for taking the Club forward & still meeting our obligations to the Members as well as the compliance with Regulatory & Administrative requirements that are increasing each year.

POSITIONS VACANT (not including all current positions) ARE AS FOLLOWS:-

  • Secretary
  • Results Officer
  • Ass't Coach Director
  • Ass't Registrar
  • Ass't Gear Steward
  • OH&S Officer
  • Member Protection Information Officer (formerly Child Protection Officer)
  • Ladies Co-ord (Age 10-12)
  • Competition Secretary
  • Marketing & Publicity Officers
  • Data Entry Assistants
  • Gear Steward
  • Training Field Coordinator
  • Mens O35s Coordinator
  • Mens Senior Coordinator

The filling of these additional positions will require a small amount of work at the start of the season for most, but will have a dramatic impact on spreading & reducing the work that has been done for so long by so few.

Your assistance & commitment will ensure we can continue to provide for your children & the future of this great Club. When you turn up to play or are bringing players, everything is set-up & players just have to get onto the field on time. This does not happen automatically, it is the result of the efforts of a few dedicated volunteers. YOU CAN HELP MAKE THIS EASIER by volunteering to help out with any position that meets your skills.

The rewards are great when you serve your community. The demand on your time will be minimal and we need YOUR SKILLS to ensure our football community can flourish.

Elections will be held at the AGM in December (now Monday 8th December 7.30pm at Seaforth Oval), so please consider how you can help and try and make the commitment that others have made to ensure sport is available for you & your childrens' enjoyment.

Any existing Committee members are only too happy to discuss the benefits of their work,
see the » Contact section for 'phone numbers etc.

Best wishes for the rest of 2008 and looking forward to seeing you all again next Season.

The U11 Seaforth Eagles won the recently completed Strikers 6 A Side Competition played on Wednesdays over September to November 2008 at Cromer Park.

The Eagles were made up of boys who have come through the Seaforth ranks and reunited some of our Manly rep players with their team mates from Division 1.

After the eight rounds of the regular season, they were the only undefeated team and last Wednesday evening, they went on to win the final in convincing style with a 6-2 victory.

The team was made up of:

It all bodes well for the 12/1s in 2009.

David who? For goals, see Angus

Angus Mawson - photo courtesy of The Mosman Daily

ANGUS Mawson’s dream is one day to bend it like David Beckham, but not even the golden player of English football could match the goal tally of this Neutral Bay kindergarten student.

Angus, aged five, just played his first season with the Seaforth Dragons, for whom he scored an astonishing 37 goals.

Even more remarkable, those goals came in just 15 games.

Such is his talent, Angus has already been selected by Football NSW for its Sydney North elite under-7/8 training program.

“We were very surprised he got selected, considering he was younger than the other kids,” his dad Mark said. “He has always had a ball at his feet since about the age of two.

“Whether it be outside, inside, wherever, we always just hear the ball bouncing up against the wall he just loves it.”

After years of nagging his dad, Angus was finally given the chance to play football.

Never having played against other children before, Mr Mawson said he had no idea what to expect once his son hit the field.

“He had to wait until age five before he was allowed to play, and he said after training that he had a game coming up,” Mr Mawson said.

“His first game was actually against an older team and he managed to get through them and score two goals, and he just loved it.”

Mr Mawson told the Daily that Angus would often dribble the ball past countless defenders and score goals.

And it seems Angus has learnt the Beckham way to celebrate his goals his sister Lizzie said he often runs with his shirt held above his head.

“The coach would often tell him, after he had scored a few and it was clear we were going to win, to ‘start passing the ball around now, Angus’,” Mr Mawson said.

“But sometimes he would get the ball, have no one to pass it to and the coach would say ‘off you go then, Angus’, and sure enough he dribbled around and scored.”

Angus lists his favourite players as David Beckham and Lucas Neill, and, worryingly for future Australian selectors, he wants to play for England one day.

“I like football because I like scoring goals,” he said

And is there any other reason he likes football, the Daily asked: “Because it’s fun,” he said.

And his aim for next season is equally simple and straightforward: “I want to score 39 goals next.”

Angus will now train twice a week with Football NSW.
