Ladies Soccer News – February 2007
Welcome to the 2007 soccer season. We had a very successful year in 2006 with 7 teams making an appearance on Finals day. Most importantly, everyone had fun, improved their skills and enjoyed being that little bit fitter.
The under 10's girls competition in 2006 brought the opportunity for a new players to have an introduction to Sunday Soccer. This competition is for any girls between 9 and 10 years old and is a fantastic introduction. We will have 3 or 4 teams this year in the U10's, as well as 4 or 5 x U12's, at least 3 x U14's, 2 x U16's, 2 x U18's and 2 or 3 x Open Age teams. There is a place at Seaforth for any female wanting to play Soccer, irregardless of skill levels. In this regard we are hoping to form an Over 35's Ladies Team. There are several mum's interested and we need to know if more are interested. We have a Coach & Manager, just need some thirsty, fun loving Ladies to complete the picture. Call me if you are interested.

The process for forming teams is as follows:

Players registration ends 10 Feb 2007.

Players are sorted into age groups. This takes a week.

Players turn up for TRIALS/GRADING as detailed above.

Players are formed into teams based on SKILL LEVELS, PAST TEAMS and lastly, FRIENDSHIPS.

Your MANAGER or COACH will contact each player to notify training days and times as soon as possible after grading, but expect at least a weeks delay.

Continually check our WEB site for NEW information. There is a lot of work getting teams organised and the less phone calls the better.
Please get together with your friends from school or work and encourage them to come out and have a tremendous time through winter, playing a game that is so much fun as well as bonding with your team mates, forming new friendships and staying fit & healthy.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: When does the competition start?
- Sunday 31st March or after Easter. (to be confirmed by MWFA).
Q: What time do we play?
- All ages games are played on Sundays. Times vary from 8.30am to 3.00pm with younger teams starting earliest and open age usually start from 1pm through to 3.00pm.
Q: When does training commence?
- Depending on the coach, (volunteers needed), training will commence mid March.
We have lights at Manly West Oval (off Quirk Rd.) and Balgowlah Rd for our Ladies teams.
WE NEED COACHES AND MANAGERS.
There is a huge increase in the number of Ladies playing Soccer each year. Whilst this is wonderful for the game and our community, it places more demands on the Committee that are already very busy with the usual preparations for the season.
YOUR ASSISTANCE IS SOUGHT !!
I can’t begin to tell you the benefits and rewards of putting back into your community the same efforts that were put in when you were playing Junior sport. The players and parents you meet are generally the best people and most appreciative of your efforts. Life-long friendships are established and you will always be rewarded for helping your fellow citizens.
The increase in Teams will see our tremendous Ladies Teams’ volunteers struggling with the increased demands for Managers, Coaches and Assisstants.

Ladies Finals
A great day for Seaforth on Sunday 27th August.
From the 13 Competetive teams in Ladies, we had 10 get into top four and one eliminated on For & Against. The 9 teams then went on to Semi Finals and 7 teams got through. This justifies our grading system and also the level of coaching skills/education Sharon is bringing to the Club.
I was not able to view all the games due to time conflicts, so here is a brief summary of the Finals:-
LA 12/2B - Scraped thru' on tenacity and steady results thru' the season. Played an oversized and bigger opponent. Once again Mosman able to field Div 2 teams but no Div 1 teams. Mosman's power gave them a 1 goal lead, but Seaforth spirit soon had them on backfoot and a few raids went unrewarded. Both teams went at it for the full 60 minutes, but the early goal stuck. Mosman won 1 nil.
LA 12/3 - Digby's doers. A great game with Seaforth peppering the Avalon goal early. It then went belly up somehow as Avalon seized the initiative and hammered Seaforth goal area. Great goalkeeping kept the scores Nil all. There must have been some nervous coach and managers as they entered the field for stage 2. A very tight half, however Seaforth determination won thru' and a great goal to Seaforth and a looooong wait for the Final whistle saw Seaforth win 1 nil.
LA 14/1 - What a game. The skill level was as high as I have ever seen and how Seaforth aren't the Champions will always be a mystery. From one end to the other, the passing, control, tackling was Premier League quality. Seaforth was the best team and I had to leave at half time with Seaforth clearly the better team. Soccer can be cruel and I was shocked to hear that Beacon Hill, who are also an exceptional team, had prevailed 1 Nil.
LA16/2 - a game I missed due to other games. Two very good teams at each other hammer and tongs for 60 odd minutes. No one could get that elusive goal in time or extra time. Result - Joint Premiers. A great foundation for our 16's and 18's next year.
LA18/2 - we was "done over" again by another Club's abuse of the rules. Despite the emails from MWFA stating the "spirit of the game regarding subs". Forest Killarney turned up with three LA 16/1 players as subs. These girls were good and were the difference, We went down 5-1 but not disgraced. Some teams can live with their decisions, but I couldn't.
LA 4 - ALL STARS. The original team with a core group of 5 have now put in 10 years. One is now a Matilda, so the gene pool is good. What a game. Came from 4th, knocked of the leaders and played 2nd in the Final. A tough game, from one end to the other. After 110 minutes we had seen two goals from Avalon disallowed, two sitters from Seaforth pushed wide and an Avalon penalty right in the box was saved. We went to penalties. Having the hindsight of having a loss in a previous shoot out (2000), we sorted ourselves very quickly, got girls focussed and then put 4 in the net whilst Avalon were subjected to 3 of the best saves ever. Result - WIN on penalties.
LA2 - I didn't get to see much of this game, but what I saw was pretty impressive. For the Ladies to go 3 nil against quality opposition was pretty special. To see them passing and heading was truly brilliant. They played with an intensity that sat Manly Vale on their backsides and reinforces that you can't ever take a Seaforth team as beaten. Well done Sharon and the Ladies.
There we have it, 4 Gold Medals, and a damn good effort from Coaches, Managers and Players. A Special thanks to our tireless Committee members who turned up early Sundays to help Dave and I do nets, canteen etc. Impossible to have done it without your support and good to know we contributed a few thousand canteen dollars.
Cheers

Ladies Powder Room - April 2006
"FROM THE LADIES POWDER ROOM"
Welcome to all Seaforth players and supporters. This is my first opportunity to go to print after a very disruptive start to the season. The MWFA were, as always, consistent in the timing and impact of their decisions. Maximum impact and little acknowledgement of the impact on the poor players affected by the decisions.
Despite this, Seaforth have 16 Ladies teams this year and the popularity of Ladies Soccer is increasing by 15% each year. We have created a monster for parents as the girls LOVE their soccer so much, or is it the chatter that goes on at training? It's not uncommon for players to try and sub for other teams so that they get 2 or 3 games on the weekend.
A special thanx to Coaches and Managers who have coped with the changes and kept Parents and Players motivated. A reminder to all players that it is YOUR responsibility to ensure your Coach is aware of absences from Training or Games. You let your team and the Club down by not informing anyone in time to arrange a replacement.
Another sore point is Players not getting to training and matches on time. Coaches give up a tremendous amount of time. Players should understand this and ensure you show support. Managers are also going to a lot of trouble to ensure your games are trouble free, so next time you see them, make sure you thank them for their efforts. Get to games ½ hour before kick-off.
WET WEATHER:- The seasons are getting weirder, or is it just me and old age? Please ensure you check the weather line for training and match confirmation. Managers are unable to notify everyone and it is the PLAYER'S RESPONSIBILITY to check for training and game times each week. For Manly, phone weather line 9976 1699 and observe the instructions.
TEAM NEWS
U10 Champs, Starlets & Devils:- these teams are Winners. Sweeping all before them and ensuring Seaforth "gene pool" is as strong as ever.
The
U12/1 are doing it tough. After last week's loss to the top team, 1 - Nil, I saw a team that was unlucky to lose but also capable of some good results with a bit of luck. Keep up the spirit and results will turn around.
The
U12/2 A & B teams are 2nd & 4th. Both teams are talented and will be great to see them both in the Finals.
U12/3's are 2nd and super-coach, Digby, is as chuffed as any of the parents. Murray O is ecstatic.
U12/4's coached by Stix (who also coaches 2 other teams) are running 1st and look the goods for a Grand Final appearance. A very well drilled and exciting outfit.
Our
U14/1 "All Stars" are starting to hit their straps. Some HUUUGE results see them in Top spot and maybe on the road to C of C's, provided not too many 8:30games !!
The
U14/1B's are just the best team. Happy & talented, they are struggling in Div 1 but are anything but losers. Every game is so good to watch as they play their hearts out, seeking that elusive win. Keep it up girls, you are a credit to Seaforth FC.
U14/2's have blossomed under the tutelage of Ian & Fred. Results see them move up to 3rd spot.
Our
U16/2's with Maurice at the helm are looking dangerous. With a combination of good players, triers and team players, Maurice has melded a lovely, competitive group of players.
The
U16/3's are giving me heartburn. Far better than their results to date, a poor attendance at training and some games has cost them heaps. Let's hope everyone is on board now and ready to play out the season.
Our
U18's are struggling to match the top teams but are well in the race for honours when the comp. is split in June. Charlie. Mark and Keith make up a great Coaching/Management team. The girls are great and it is just a matter of belief and they will shock any team above them.
The
Open 4's have creeped up to 1st after some great goal-a-thons in their last 2 matches. Blessed with talent, the lure of late nights, free booze and partying means they can run hot & cold. Thank God we have Stix coaching and keeping them focussed.
Finally, our
Open 2 team are running 4th, but are capable of more. Some close results haven't helped, however this is a very skilled team and will be there when the Final's whistles blow at Cromer in August.
Don't forget your canteen duties and look forward to catching up with you all at the various games.
Cheers

"FROM THE LADIES POWDER ROOM"
Welcome to another great addition to the Seaforth Soccer Newsletter. This flows on from last year's witty reports on Ladies Soccer News. Anyone with news or items about Ladies Soccer can now have it reported so that all the other Seaforth teams know about us.
Our competition commenced on Sunday 2nd with 16 teams entered in the Ladies comp. This is a great indication of the Club's growing stature as a Soccer force. We now have 3 x U10 teams, 5 dynamic U12 teams,3 talented U14's struggling with a Grading stuff-up, 2 new U16's, an exciting U18 team, all well supported by two Open teams, 2's & 4's who are mainly girls who have played together from U14's.
Not every team won last Sunday although, by all reports, I missed some dynamic soccer and some "pretty-to-watch" goals.
The
U10 teams all went well. Unfortunately, Avalon didn't front up for the Starlets game. With most teams improving on their first week's efforts the year looks good for these future stars.
The
U12's teams are going well with only the 12/1's struggling to find their rhythm. Coach Jody has them running around in the right direction, they now just have to get an elusive win under their belts. All the other games seemed to be real team efforts with everyone supporting each other.
The
U14/1 Reds's are experiencing the trials & tribulations of poor, no, make that a
disgraceful, grading decision. Other teams will think they are playing some easybeats, however they are not used to the Seaforth spirit and will find our defence and tenacity very hard to penetrate. The
14/1 All Stars and
14/2 Blues are killing 'em and are setting the standard for other teams this year.
The
U16/2's are going well under Maurice's energetic coaching and will be a force to come.
Our 16/3's are coming up from U14's and may struggle to get going for a couple of games. This is too good a team to lose too many games and the girls will only get stronger. The guest Coach this week will thrill them with tricks and skills that will leave the opposition gasping!
The
Open Div 2Ladies got off to a good start, but stumbled with a 2-2 draw. There is a story here although I'm not going to be the one to start it !! The
Open 4's are getting their act together and Coach Stix is full of confidence. Missed goals didn't affect the result, but the net is there to stop balls, so let's give the net a workout next week. This team is developing rapidly & an injection of new players is going to see them an extremely competitive outfit.
I'll sign out now that you have some background. I will mention that being on the sideline was very exciting and many thanks to the parents & friends for your support and good-spirited barracking. It sets a standard that all Clubs should use as a Benchmark. Even the other teams got acknowledged for good play ! Well done.
BARBECUE/CANTEEN DUTIES & NET ROSTER: - A Two Week roster has been developed and distributed to Managers. We rely on the Canteen as a pre-requisite for getting Sunday games at Seaforth. Please don't let the Club or your team down by missing your Roster. Nets are usually allocated to the team playing first on that field on the day.
Don't forget to let us know if you have any gossip or items of interest for the Ladies column.

Women's Under 10 Nine-Side
The Women's Under 10 age group represents a transition from mixed mini-soccer to regular, all-female soccer played on a full-size field as well as potentially an entry point to soccer from other sports. A large number of new underage female players start the game in the Under 12 and start on a full sized field never having played before. The aim is to have a transition stage for these players to learn the game before transitioning to a full sized field. This may also provide a way to capture young girls to the sport who may wish to start at a younger age but may not wish to play alongside boys. It would also allow the girls who did wish to play in the Mixed Saturday Competition also to play in an All-girl Sunday Competition.
The change is to allow for an Under 10 Girls Nine-a-Side group on a Sunday Morning, played on available three quarter sized pitches and along the same rules as the current Saturday Morning Mixed Competition. The structure of the competition is identical to the based on the current Under 9 Age group structure with some minor modifications, ie the use of a size 4 ball and 25-minute halves, mainly because the Competition is aimed at 9 and 10 year olds, rather than 8 and 9 year olds.
(1) Clubs must indicate the strength of the teams being submitted, and the same grading rules apply as for the Under 9 Saturday Age Group. The MWSA and Clubs will divide teams into groups with generalised gradings as per the Under Nine Saturday Age group.
(2) Players must be Under 10 years of age at the start of the current football year. I D Cards will not be required, except for players that will participate as Borrowed Players in Older Age Groups. It will be left to the integrity of Clubs not to use unnecessarily higher grade players in other grades (Refer B 13).
(3) Each team must nominate at least one responsible person to attend a lecture on the Laws of the Game as applied to this age group. A Card will be issued to each person attending such lectures. The equivalent Rules in Section B 15 (b) apply to the appointment of the referees to Under Nine games.
(4) Playing Format:
(a) Teams within each group will play other teams from the same group during the season in a Round-Robin Format. The MC shall determine the dates of the games but the number of games does not have to be complete Round-Robins.
(b) Cancelled and unplayed games will not be rescheduled.
(c) Subject to the size of the competition, each team may participate in a Gala Day at the end of the season, usually on the week before Junior Finals. The format of the Gala Day and the method of allocation of teams to select Gala Days will be determined by the MC at the start of the season. The Gala Days may be competitive. All players will receive a memento of their participation in the Gala Day and no Perpetual Trophies will be awarded.
(d) No competition structure shall be kept. No results from the Round-Robin will be kept recorded except as required to determine the participation in the Gala Days. No results will be officially published.
(vii) Games are played on Sundays and will have the same times as the Under 9 Saturday Age Group: 8.30 - 9.25; 9.30 - 10. 25; 10.30 - 11.25; 11.30 - 12.25.
(viii) Specific Alterations to the Laws of the Game, in context of the above:
Law i - Field Dimensions
MWSA fields allocated for the Saturday Morning Under 9 Age Groups will be used.
Law ii - Size 4 Ball to be used.
Law iii - Number of Players - Nine (9). Unlimited substitutions shall be allowed. Substitutions will be made from the half-way line at any time, ie probably during play, provided the substituted players leave the field first at the half-way line.
Law vii - Duration of the Game - 2 X 25 minute halves, with a five-minute break between.
Law xii - Fouls and Misconduct
Only Indirect Free Kicks will be awarded. Opposing players must retreat 10 metres from the ball.
Law xiv - Free Kicks
All Free Kicks will be Indirect, with no Free Kick closer than 10 metres from the opponents' goal.
Law xvi - Goal Kick
The Goal Kick may be taken from any position within the Penalty Area and no opposing player may be closer than 10 metres from the ball.
Law xvii - Corner Kick
The Corner Kick will be taken on the Goal Line between the edge of the Penalty Area and the Corner and no opposing player may be closer than 10 metres from the ball.
All Other Laws - as per Referee's Chart
